January 22: Identity in Christ

 Identity in Christ

Theme: Understanding Who You Are in Christ and Living from That Truth

Written by: Peyton Hamilton

Scripture:

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20)

As a teenage girl, I face daily challenges and often seek my friends’ approval. Sometimes, I trust people as true friends, only to feel hurt or betrayed. In those moments, I take comfort in God, who never criticizes but instead reassures me through scripture or a kind friend.

Jeremiah 31:3 reminds me:

“I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.”

This verse reassures me that God’s love remains constant, even when I feel rejected.

I often want to make everyone happy—my family, friends, and myself—but I struggle with what I truly want. There’s a constant tug-of-war between doing what’s right and what’s easy. Paul’s words in Romans 7:19 resonate deeply:

“For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing.”

One day, a friend asked me to lie for her. My heart raced as I wrestled with the decision. Would I choose truth, even at the cost of her friendship? In that moment, I prayed for strength, and God reminded me of Proverbs 10:9:

“Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out.”

Choosing honesty wasn’t easy, but it brought peace that no approval could replace.

I’ve learned that knowing who I am starts with knowing who I am in Christ. While the world tells me to conform, God’s truth in Galatians 2:20 reminds me:

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.”

My identity is in Christ—not in what I do or what others think of me. This truth frees me from seeking approval and fills me with confidence, knowing I am already loved and accepted by God.

Every day, I strive to embrace my identity in Christ and live with purpose. Micah 6:8 guides me:

“To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”

Knowing I am loved, chosen, and called by God is more than enough.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for reminding us that our true identity is found in You. Help us to live with confidence in the knowledge that we are loved, chosen, and accepted by You. Strengthen us to walk in integrity, act justly, love mercy, and remain humble in our journey. May Your truth guide our hearts and decisions as we embrace who we are in Christ.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
