January 12: I AM A Warrior!

I AM A Warrior!

Theme: Spiritual Warfare. Equipping Yourself with God's Armour to Stand Firm

I was a worrier in yesterday's devotional, but today, I am a warrior! What a twist!

I have had to fight many battles in my life. They come from the left, right, and centre. Battles appear to love me.

Sometimes, I literally feel tired. How do I survive and not just thrive? One of my favourite Bible stories is the account of the Amorites and Moabites in 2 Chronicles 20. They came against Jehoshaphat to fight. Jehoshaphat, fearing the threat, sought the Lord through prayer and fasting. The congregation joined him in one accord, united and purposeful in seeking the Lord’s help. We need to respond when we hear the battle call for our sisters, families, friends, and the church.

Jehoshaphat and the people of Israel proclaimed God's promises of protection and deliverance in times of trouble: “If calamity comes upon us, whether the sword of judgement, or plague, or famine, we will stand in your presence before this temple that bears your name and will cry out to you in our distress, and you will hear us and save us” (2 Chronicles 20:9). They set themselves before God, agonizing in faith, and the Lord heard their cries. God's response was clear: “Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s” (2 Chronicles 20:15). Learn to set yourself before God.

In fact, God told them that they would not need to fight but simply to “stand still and see the salvation of the Lord” (2 Chronicles 20:17). The Spirit of God moved, and a miraculous turn of events unfolded: the Amorites and Moabites turned against each other, completely destroying one another. Their alliance, forged to destroy God's people, backfired. God gave Israel victory without them lifting a weapon.

What Can We Learn from the Story?

  1. Battles Are Inevitable for Christians. Challenges and trials will come as part of our spiritual journey. However, God has already promised us: “No weapon forged against you will prevail” (Isaiah 54:17).

  2. Our Weapons Are Not Carnal. The Apostle Paul reminds us in 2 Corinthians 10:4-5: “The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.”

  3. Every Christian Is a Warrior. “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still” (Exodus 14:14). Back off and allow God to fight for you. Arm yourselves with God's armour. I pray that those who gang up against you will have a similar encounter. Your fighting skills will improve, and silence will become your weapon. Stand still and see what God will do for you. Be 'silent' but still fighting. Learn how to fight in silence! This approach takes patience and practice.

  4. Faith and Unity in Prayer Are Key. The Israelites sought God with united hearts and faith, and He answered. Similarly, we must pray without ceasing: “And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith” (Matthew 21:22). Be bold in your prayers, and God will do it again for you. When we are silent, God is loud in our defence. Teach us to know when a particular battle requires a quiet approach. Allow God to do His silent thing! Fight in silence and win in public.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your promises of protection and deliverance. As we face battles in our lives, remind us that You are always with us and that the victory belongs to You. Teach us to equip ourselves with Your armour and stand firm in faith. Strengthen our hearts to trust in Your Word and to persevere in prayer, knowing that You are our refuge and fortress. Today, we declare that no weapon formed against us shall prosper, and we claim victory in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Comments

  1. I have fight many battles myself, unknown battles, battles from all angles. There was a point in my life where I thought something was wrong with me, thinking probably i was the problem, but I was wrong. The enemy was mad and still mad with me because my decision is to serve Jesus. I've cried myself to sleep night after nights yes, but through it all. I find peace in my strom. Job 13:15 reminds me that. Though he slay me, yet will I trust him. Yes! I will back off and let God continue to fight for me, and I'll arm myself with God's armour. Thank you Sis. Danvers for the reminder that God will fight for us. I am a (WARRIORS FOR CHRIST)
