God is called Jehovah Rapha, The Lord Who Heals, in the Bible. Exodus 15:26 declares: "I am the Lord that healeth thee" (KJV)

A Personal Journey Through Loss and Healing

In 2024, I lost my beloved aunt to cancer. After numerous treatments, the cancer went into remission, and she enjoyed good health for a few years. Unexpectedly, the cancer returned more aggressively, and after a short period, she passed away. It was a devastating time for our family, especially as we had also lost our grandmother the year before and another aunt previously.

With Auntie Gwen, I had the opportunity to speak with her a few days before her passing. I encouraged her to consider chemotherapy one more time. She said, "My niece, my faith has not given up, but my body cannot go through it again." I pleaded with her to reconsider, and she agreed to do the additional tests. However, she was immediately hospitalized.

God allowed her to speak to everyone she loved in those final moments. She encouraged us to accept Jesus, to show love, and to live in peace. After showing some improvement, she begged the doctors to send her home, and though reluctant, they agreed.

They knew what we did not. She sat up in the car, confidently spoke to everyone, and journeyed home. We were excited—hopeful that she would recover! But upon reaching the gate, she was lifted to her bed, took her last breath, and that was it. We all concluded that she wanted to die at home. We even joked that she wanted to die in style as she loved fashion.

Healing Beyond the Physical

Even in death, Auntie Gwen found physical, emotional, and spiritual healing in Jesus. She clung to His unchanging promises and resolved in her heart that she would see God. Like the Apostle Paul, she could declare:  "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith" (2 Timothy 4:7, KJV)

I wept uncontrollably—not as one without hope, but as one who knows that one day, if I remain faithful, I will see my dear aunt again. Sometimes, I wish she had more time to do God’s work, for she was an ardent labourer for Him. Yet, in my sorrow, I remember how God felt when His Son died. But death is not the end.

The book of Job reminds us: "If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come" (Job 14:14, KJV).

Jehovah Rapha, Our Healer

I may not know your unique challenges today, but I pray that God will bring you physical, emotional, and spiritual healing to grow in His wisdom and understanding.

Jehovah Rapha, heal our hearts.

Jehovah Rapha, heal our minds.

Jehovah Rapha, heal every organ in our bodies.

Jehovah Rapha, heal us where not even the doctors can see.

Jehovah Rapha, heal my thoughts.

Jehovah Rapha, Balm in Gilead, Great Physician, and Sympathizing Jesus, we claim Your healing today.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Jehovah Rapha, we call upon Thee today. We lay before Thee our burdens, pain, and brokenness, trusting that Thou art the God who healeth all our diseases. Strengthen our faith, comfort our weary souls, and restore us in body, mind, and spirit. Let Thy healing power flow through our lives, and may we always trust in Thy perfect will. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
