March 12: Purpose Over Comfort
by Stacy-Ann Dawkins
Scripture Focus: Romans 8:28 - "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."
As human beings, we naturally gravitate toward comfort. We prefer situations that are predictable, safe, and easy. Yet God often calls us beyond comfort into places where our faith must grow. The truth is that God’s purpose for our lives is greater than our desire for comfort.
The promise in Romans 8:28 reminds us that all things - even the difficult, uncomfortable, and confusing moments - are working together for good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose. This verse does not mean that every situation feels good or makes sense immediately. Instead, it assures us that God is actively weaving every experience into His greater plan for our lives.
Sometimes the path of purpose leads through challenges, sacrifices, and uncertainty. Yet these moments are often the very places where God shapes our character, deepens our faith, and prepares us for the assignment He has given us.
Comfort may feel safe, but purpose leads to transformation.
Joseph’s Journey from Betrayal to Purpose
The life of Joseph powerfully illustrates this truth.
Joseph had dreams from God that he would one day rise to leadership. However, the path to that promise was far from comfortable. His brothers betrayed him and sold him into slavery. In Egypt, he served faithfully but was falsely accused and thrown into prison. For years, Joseph experienced hardship, disappointment, and isolation.
From a human perspective, Joseph’s circumstances looked like a series of setbacks. But God was working behind the scenes.
Eventually, Joseph was brought before Pharaoh to interpret a dream, and God elevated him to become the second most powerful leader in Egypt. Through this position, Joseph saved countless lives - including the very family who had betrayed him.
Joseph later told his brothers:
"You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good." (Genesis 50:20)
Joseph’s story is a living example of the promise in Romans 8:28. What seemed painful and unfair became part of God’s greater purpose. The discomfort Joseph endured prepared him for the role God had planned.
The Lesson for Us Today
Many of us are in seasons where life feels uncomfortable. We may face uncertainty, challenges in our work, struggles in relationships, or moments when God’s plan is unclear.
But God is still at work.
Your current season may not be comfortable, but it may be preparing you for your calling.
The challenge may be developing perseverance.
The waiting may be strengthening your faith.
The struggle may be shaping your character.
When we choose purpose over comfort, we trust that God’s plan is bigger than our present circumstances.
Remember: God never wastes pain. He uses it to fulfill purpose.

Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for reminding us that You are working in all things for our good. Even when life feels uncomfortable or uncertain, help us to trust Your purpose over our desire for ease. Strengthen our faith when the path is difficult, and give us courage to follow where You lead. Shape our lives according to Your plan, and help us believe that every season is part of Your greater work in us.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Indeed sis! God never wastes pain. He uses it to fulfill purpose. Amen!
