Personal Reflection
Growing up, there were times I felt insignificant, like a tiny hairpin, easily overlooked or discarded. The future often seemed like nothing more than a distant dream.
Far too often, I heard the painful words that I would not amount to anything. Sadly, there were moments when I thought it was true. I thought my current struggles were my permanent reality. I did not have the talents that made others shine or stand out. How I wish I could sing or be noticed like others.
I felt small, unnoticed, and ordinary. Just like that little hairpin.
But God had other plans.
Years ago while studying the Spiritual Gifts in our Sabbath School Lesson, I prayerfully asked God for the spirit of discernment. I read the list several times and that one resonated with me. That prayer changed my life.
God answered by giving me what became my hairpin, a sharpened sense of discernment, the ability to recognize the needs around me, and a heart deeply touched by the suffering of others. He placed me in positions where I could help, encourage, and minister to those in need. This gift gave me a deep sense of many things that others might just pass or take for granted.
It was not a glamorous gift, but it was powerful. Through God's grace, I have been able to positively impact many lives by being sensitive, compassionate, and willing to take action.
Your Hairpin Matters
You might not be a warrior like Jael, but God can still use what you have.
You might not have a microphone, a large platform, or what the world calls "greatness." However, when you surrender your small "hairpin" into God's mighty hands, He can do wonders.
Just as Moses had a simple staff and Aaron had his voice, your "hairpin"—whether it is compassion, listening, encouraging, or quietly serving can become a mighty weapon for God's kingdom.
There are so many women hurting all around us—in the church, in the community, in the workplace, and even in our own homes.
Ask God:
"Lord, what would You have me to do?"
When we humble ourselves and offer what little we have, God can, and will, multiply it beyond what we could imagine.
A hairpin is small, delicate, and seems insignificant. It is not a weapon. Yet in God's hands, even something as small as a hairpin or in Jael’s case, a tent peg can become a mighty tool for His purpose.
It reminds us that God uses the humble, the unlikely, and the small things to accomplish great victories.
Come with Your Hairpin
Whatever you have, give it to Jesus, and He will use it according to His will and purpose.
Come with your hairpin! Take out your hairpin symbolically. Do not think that your hairpin is irrelevant or too small to matter.
Give Jesus your hairpin, and He will take it and use it to connect you with someone for His divine purpose.
What do you have? What can you give?
Even if it seems to be only a pin, allow Jesus to "pin" you for His work, so that you can impact others for His glory.
Surrender it to Him today and watch Him transform something small into something powerful for His kingdom.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for seeing greatness in what feels small and insignificant. Thank You for the gifts You have placed within me, even when I did not recognize them. Today, I surrender my "hairpin"—my skills, my heart, my willingness—into Your hands. Use me, Lord, for Your glory. Show me how to touch the lives around me and bring hope, healing, and encouragement. Help me to never underestimate what You can do through a surrendered life. Pin me for Your purpose, Lord, and let my life be a testimony of Your power. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Closing Thought
You are not too small. In God's hands, you are mighty. Trust Him with your hairpin and watch what He will do.
If you can use anything Lord you can use me.
