January 3: Trust the Plan

Trust the Plan

Theme: Trusting God's timing and purpose in your life.

Author: Dr. Terry-Ann Robinson, Kings Seventh-day Adventist Church

For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

I must admit I don't like waiting or uncertainty. I am one of those people who make a list for everything, and then I have a list to keep track of my list. I work very strictly with time, and I mentally take quite a few "chill pills" to control my emotions when things don't go according to plan. I have gotten better over the years, but my "chill pills" are still needed. For some time now, I have been asking God to show me His plan for my life. I want a glimpse of the plan. Instead of showing me the details of His plan, God responds with Jeremiah 29:11, saying He knows the plan.

But Lord, I want to know the plan too.

Why can't you just tell me the plan?

It surely could not have been easy for Joseph. God revealed to Joseph that his brothers, father, and mother would one day bow to him. After being thrown in a pit and sold into slavery, who would have thought that this was the process that would lead to that plan? Joseph didn't curse God and call Him a liar. He trusted God's plan when things seemed not to be leading to the end God told Him about.

Let's face it. We are finite beings with limited understanding. We may plan for the future but cannot see beyond our current time. We don't know what will happen in the next minute or second. But God, who is the beginning and the end, declares He has a plan for our lives. He goes even further to ease the mind of chronic planners like me.  He tells us the plan's objective, plans to prosper you, plans to give you hope and a future.  His plans are better than any plans we could ever make, and He knows the timing of that plan.

As a teacher, sometimes I set objectives for my classes that are not met. Something derails my lesson. I have to replan and reteach. God is a far better teacher than I am; He is the best. His objectives are always met. Just like in the life of Joseph, all God said came through.

When we get anxious and worried about God's plans and timing, remember, "Higher than the highest human thought can reach is God's ideal for His children.." Ed 18.4  Jesus tells us to trust me with your plans. So, take your "chill pill" and relax… God's got you.

Prayer: Dear Lord,

Thank You for the reassurance that You hold our lives in Your hands, with plans to prosper and give us hope and a future. Help us trust in Your timing and perfect will, even when we cannot see the details or understand the process. Teach us patience and faith as we navigate uncertainty, and remind us that Your plans are far greater than anything we could imagine. Give us peace to rest in Your promises and courage to surrender our plans to You.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
