September 30: Leading Many, Losing My Own

Image
Leading Many, Losing My Own Text: “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” – Joshua 24:15 Joshua stood before Israel and declared his commitment, not only as a leader of the nation but as a priest of his home. His testimony was not “I will serve the Lord,” but “as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”  By Sharon Campbell Danvers | Founder Daughters Arise Ministries Joshua understood that leadership begins at home. Many spiritual leaders today find themselves building God’s kingdom in the public eye while neglecting the vineyard in their own homes. Sermons are preached, ministries are organized, souls are won, but spouses grow distant, children feel unseen, and homes remain spiritually dry. It is possible to be admired as a shepherd in the church but absent as a shepherd in the family. When this happens, families are not watered. The soil of marriage hardens. Children grow without consistent spiritual nurture. The very place God entrusted to us first becomes t...

September 29: Opposite Outcome

Image
Sharon Campbell-Danvers  North Side Seventh-day Adventist Church  Key Text: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28) KJV  Do you believe there are times when God allows us to go through certain experiences to prepare us for the next steps in our journey? We go through tests so we can have a testimony. We face pain so we can sing a song of victory. We endure trials so we can triumph in Jesus. Sometimes we walk through sickness, not because God has abandoned us, but so we are drawn closer to the Great Physician—the Balm in Gilead, the Sympathizing Jesus. At times, our surroundings become uncomfortable just to keep us on our knees. Friends may begin to act strangely, just so we can see who they really are. Opportunities may appear blocked, but it is because God has other plans that are far better than our own. We may not always understand the process, but God calls us to ...

September 28: Hear My Cry, O Lord

Image
Hear My Cry, O Lord Scripture Reading: "Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I." (Psalm 61:1-2 KJV) By Sharon Campbell Danvers |  Daughters Arise Ministries I tend to be drawn to topics that have a crying element. Truth be told, from as far back as I can remember, I have been crying. I had an immensely rough childhood, and I struggled to become the person I am today. I have witnessed abuse in all its forms, and I, too, have been impacted by physical, emotional, verbal, and psychological abuse. Honestly, I believe this is one of the reasons I am so affectionate toward people when I observe injustice or hurt. Crying has always been a weapon of defense for me. But I did not realize it until quite recently. I used to think it was a sign of defeat or weakness. But I do find that it is in those moments that I am more reflective and my faith extends to God....

September 27: Made New

Image
Made New 2 Corinthians 5:17 - “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” Evelyn Linton (Kings Seventh-day Adventist Church) ‭‭‬ This summer I had the privilege of visiting a new location. I took advantage of the opportunity for new experiences and decided to try, for the first time, a large roller coaster with double inverted loops. Let me assure you, it was my first and last time. I’ve never ever thought it logical to defy the laws of nature and travel at break-neck speed while hanging upside down and surrendering control to a machine. But I wanted to try something new. Well, that took more than faith, and the residual headache reminded me why I prefer to keep my feet on the ground. Novelty is usually exciting, especially for the adventurous adrenaline junkies among us. However, is this what Jesus meant when He told us “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation…” or that all things will be made...

September 26: When God Writes A New Story

Image
Key Text: “And the women said unto Naomi, Blessed be the LORD, which hath not left thee this day without a kinsman, that his name may be famous in Israel. And he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy life, and a nourisher of thine old age: for thy daughter in law, which loveth thee, which is better to thee than seven sons, hath born him.”  Ruth  4: 14- Dr. Terry Ann Robinson 15  KJV   Some of the most powerful books I have read are chronicles of individuals who were once broken. Out of lives that were filled with pain, God brought about unimaginable victories. I believe that God takes special interest in those who are battered by life’s circumstances.  In the Bible, we see Joseph, who was placed in a pit by his own brothers, then taken as a slave to a foreign country. Not a life anyone would want; yet, later, we see him as head of Potiphar’s estate and overseer of his household.    Esther was an orphan. Later, we see her in her royal glory as Q...

September 25: Hold On

Image
Hold On – Don’t Give Up Now Hold on. This is a call to someone today to hang in there. Sometimes it feels like no one knows what we are going through. Thoughts run through our minds again and again, and we believe no one understands. We worry about everything that unsettles us, and when a situation appears threatening our anxiety rises. We cry in silence, hiding our tears and fears. Some mornings it is a struggle just to get up and step outside. We hope no one notices us and that we will not have to speak to anyone. We long to stay hidden in our comfort zones, untouched by demands. Even church attendance can feel heavy, and the effort to worship together drains us. As days pass, some drift further away from the house of faith, convinced no one will understand. A few find strength to return, but others need help. Sometimes they are holding on by the thinnest strand of hope, praying for someone to notice. What they need is patience, compassion, and understanding—not judgement or a ...

September 24: Stretch Out

Image
Key Text: “But lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it...” (Exodus 14:16, NKJV) Dr. Tracey-Ann Trail As Moses stood at the Red Sea with the Egyptian army pressing in behind, God’s instruction to “stretch out his rod over the sea to divide it” seemed nonsensical to human eyes. Yet it was Moses’ obedience to that word that unleashed the miracle of deliverance. How many of us have prayed, fasted, and pleaded with God for a breakthrough, only to hesitate when the answer arrives? We want the sea to part before we move, but God calls us to move before the sea parts. And sometimes even when He graciously parts the sea before us, fear, pride, or doubt can keep us from stepping forward. After completing my doctoral degree in October last year, I earnestly prayed for God’s guidance on my next step. By then, I had already started working at an Adventist institution as a fifth- and sixth-grade multigrade teacher, but my heart longed for a position in higher education...

September 23: Come Close

Image
Sis. Ava Thomas Theme: The Gift of Acceptance Scripture James4:8 “Key Text: “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” Have you ever felt like you couldn’t face God in prayer because of your sin? You wrestle within yourself, convinced that He won’t answer, that He doesn’t want to see you because your sin is so great it feels beyond forgiveness. You wonder, How did I get here—so ashamed, so unworthy—that the only prayer you can whisper is “Please forgive me”? Even then, you doubt if you’re worthy to receive it. It’s not that I hadn’t heard about God’s love. My spiritual leaders would often remind me: God’s grace is sufficient. But in my heart, my biggest struggle was accepting that truth for myself. I couldn’t move past my guilt long enough to believe I was worthy to be saved and loved. Then, during a Bible study on Genesis, I encountered the story of Tamar in Genesis 38. Tamar’s unconventional and scanda...

September 22: Peace Be Still

Image
Key Scripture: He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down, and it was completely calm (Mark 4:39, NIV) Dr. Tracey Ann Trail      Storms can shake us to the core, sometimes in ways we never expected. For my family, one such storm started with my father’s sudden episodes of severe abdominal pain and bloating that would leave him wailing in pain and agony. Soon after, he began losing weight rapidly. Test after test, medication after medication, yet answers came slowly. Nearly a year passed before the doctors finally diagnosed him with Crohn’s disease.      The relief of finally discovering a name for his condition was quickly replaced by another challenge: the surgery he needed could not be performed in the Turks and Caicos. He had to go abroad. During that uncertain time, we turned to God in prayer and fasting, asking for doors to be opened, and God answered. A family friend who was a doctor recommended Adven...

September 21: Be Still

Image
Be Still “Quite Confidence in God” Key Text:  He says, ‘Be still, and know that I am God.’ Psalm 46:10 (NIV) Jusene Brown Kings Seventh-day Adventist CHurch Being still is something we all struggle with. How can I be still when the storm is raging? When I am being mistreated? When everything seems to be falling apart, and I feel like I am drowning? How can I remain still in moments like these? We are familiar with the story of Jesus and His disciples on the boat. In the middle of a fierce storm, while waves crashed and threatened to sink them, Jesus was asleep. In panic, the disciples cried out, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” (Mark 4:38). Jesus rose and rebuked the wind and the waves, and the storm obeyed. But what stands out most is His rebuke to the disciples: “Where is your faith?” I, too, have had my own moments like that when the cares of life overwhelmed me, and it felt as though God was silent, as if He were asleep while I was sinking. But in that place of fea...

September 20: Why Me?

Image
Why Me?  Chosen Despite Insecurities   Exodus 3:11-  “ But Moses said to God, ' Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?'   Exodus 3:11 NKJV Sis. Evelyn Linton Kings Seventh-day Adventist Church   What is your purpose on Earth? Do you know that you are a unique model with a unique mission, specially crafted to fulfill a plan that God has ordained for you? (Jer. 1:5)   Have you ever felt that God has given you an assignment too big for you, one that triggers your worst fear or your most feared Pharaoh? I have felt that way several times - afraid to accept an assignment or in fear of the ‘ Pharaohs’ that come with them. I ’ m tempted to ask in those moments, Lord, are you sure you have the right person? Don ’ t you think that Brother X is better able to do it?   Moses felt this way, too, but God never makes a mistake about who you are and what He wants to do with and through yo...
