January 28: God's Faithfulness

Remembering God’s Goodness in Both the Highs and Lows

Author: Leisa Walker

Scripture:
“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.” — Psalm 107:1

Reflection:

Life is filled with a mix of highs and lows, moments of joy and seasons of sorrow. When we are standing on the mountaintop, basking in victories, it’s often easy to recognize God’s goodness. We see His blessings in answered prayers, opportunities, and celebrations. In those moments, gratitude flows naturally from our hearts.

But what about the valleys? The seasons of difficulty, pain, or waiting? It can be challenging to perceive God’s goodness when prayers seem unanswered, struggles persist, or hope feels distant. We ask ourselves- God where are You? I need You now! However, let us be reminded that God’s goodness is not dependent on our circumstances. His love and faithfulness endure forever, unchanged by the flow of our emotions or situations.

Let us consider the Israelites in the wilderness (Exodus 16). Though they grumbled and doubted God during their hardship, He provided manna and quail, demonstrating His faithfulness. Similarly, in the darkest moments of David’s life, he chose to declare God’s steadfast goodness (Psalm 23:4-6). We too find ourselves complaining about what we don’t have and want God to provide, not remembering that God have blessed us with a place to sleep, food to eat, and greater still, Life that we may worship Him through the hardships. These examples remind us that God is present in both the celebrations and the struggles.

Application:
  •  • In moments of blessing, pause to give thanks and remember that every good thing comes from God (James 1:17).
  •  • In times of difficulty, reflect on God’s past faithfulness in your life. Let His goodness in the past encourage your trust in His continued care.
  •  • Write down or share testimonies of God’s faithfulness to encourage yourself and others when faith feels weak.

Challenge:

This week, spend time meditating on specific ways God has shown His goodness to you in both joyful and challenging seasons. Reflect on how those moments reveal His unchanging character and share them with someone who might need encouragement.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your unchanging goodness. Help me to remember Your faithfulness in every season of my life. When I’m on the mountaintop, keep me humble and grateful. When I’m in the valley, remind me of Your steadfast love and promises. May my heart always trust in Your goodness, whether in the highs or the lows. Teach me to wait on you trusting that You know what is best for my life. Strengthen me in my weakness in not trusting in You, and what You will do in my life, in Your time. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
