We all have
the potential to impact our communities and world in remarkable ways. Every
girl posses a unique calling a purpose knitted in the fabric of her being. God
often calls us to be brave and to exercise such bravery in the most unexpected
way. Just like Miriam, the sister of Moses and Aaron, who played a vital role
in the Exodus story. Her courage and obedience to God reminds us of our
significance in the divine plan of God.
Miriam is
introduced to us in Exodus 2: 4-10 as a little girl that demonstrated great courage and obedience when
she saw her baby brother placed in a basket among the reeds of the Nile river,
she did not estimate the dangers of the task, yet followed the little basket to
ensure his safety. It was Miriam who bravely approached Pharaoh’s daughter and
courageously offered to find a Hebrew mother to nurse him, ensuring continuity
to the fulfilment of God’s plan for his people.
Later, when
God instructed Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, Miriam distinctly
emerged as a leader of praise. After crossing the Red Sea, she took a
tambourine in her hand and led the women in praise and worship, celebrating
God’s deliverance. Miriam’s faithfulness and
boldness uplifted the spirit of the entire nation (Exodus 15:20-21).
Reflection:
Miriam’s
experience teaches us the importance of stepping out in faith, no matter the
size of your contribution. She understood the significance of her role, and she
acted boldly, trusting God’s plan. Miriam’s determination to be brave has
afforded her the privilege to be named a prophetess (someone who hears from and
speaks for God). Even though at some points of her life she goes through a hard
season in her relationship with her brother, at the end the prophet Micah
identifies her alongside her brothers, as a blessing sent from God to His
people (Micah 6:4)
Encouragement
When God
prompt your heart, “be brave. Whether it’s offering support, leading a prayer
group, or speaking out for justice, embrace the God-given task. Allow the Holy Spirit to use you and His courage to empower you.
Prayer
Heavenly
father, thank you for the example of Miriam, her bravery and willingness to
serve even in the little task. Help me “to step out in courage, knowing that
you have called me for a divine purpose. May I trust your plan and take bold
actions that honour you. Give me the strength also, to support others on their
journey, just as Miriam did. In Jesus’ name,
Amen
Thanks for sharing. I was indeed encouraged.
