May 31 Seasons of Growth: The Path to Spiritual Maturity

Image
Carlene Lawrence Berea SDA Church Theme: Wisdom Through Life’s Journey Scripture: Job 32:7-9 (KJV) “I said, Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom. But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding. Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand judgment.” There was a time when I found myself faithfully attending church, yet living a life that stood in contrast to the teachings of Christ. I knew the right words to say, the hymns to sing, and the Scriptures to recite, but my heart was far from surrendered. Outwardly, I looked the part. Inwardly, I struggled with choices that led me away from the path of life. During those seasons, my grandmother remained a steadfast light. A woman of unwavering prayer and deep conviction, she often reminded me, “There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death” (Proverbs 14:12). Her words, often sown in quiet moments, never left me. The...

May 30: From Tears to Triumph

Image
Theme: Joy Comes in the Morning Corry Chambers  Shepherdess,  Women’s Ministries Director CIC   Psalm 30:5 – “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.” Romans 8:28 – “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God…” 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 – “…the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble…” Revelation 21:4 – “He will wipe every tear from their eyes…” In 2016, I stood on the brink of what I believed would be one of the most joyous seasons of my life. After four years of marriage, my husband and I were finally expecting our first child—a beautiful baby girl we had already named Jada. My pregnancy seemed healthy. My heart was filled with anticipation. I was surrounded by love and prayers. But in a single moment, everything changed. One Sabbath afternoon, just one day before my due date, I felt an unusual kick—something different, something that lingered. I thought...

May 29 Resting in His Peace

Image
Theme:  Be Still and Know That He Is God Karen Lazzari Bodden Town SDA Scripture Focus: Psalms 46:10   “Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Being still is not something that comes easily for me, and I assume it’s the same for most.  We live in a fast-paced world that demands our constant attention to keep up with its pace, fearing being left behind. Sometimes, we forget to stop and smell the roses. However, through the three “P’s,” I am learning each day how to simply “Be still and know that He is God.” I teach a junior class at the church I attend. One of the lessons taught to the kids some time back was entitled “From Pit, to Prison, to the Palace,” regarding the inspiring story of Joseph (one of my favorite Bible characters), which recounted his struggles and experiences.  From this lesson, I decided to use what I call the three “P’s” formula, which helps me to navigate through the darkest mom...

May 28: THE STRENGTH TO KEEP GOING

Image
Theme: God’s power in your weakness. Karen Lazzari Bodden Town SDA Church Scripture Focus: Psalms 91:10-16 “No harm will overtake you; no disaster will come near your tent.  For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in  all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will  not strike your foot against a stone.”  On November 7th, 2008, my family and I went to bed praying for safety from the uncertain path of an approaching hurricane named Paloma. As I prayed that night, I symbolically placed the Lamb’s blood on my doorposts, a sign that represented God’s love and protection for His faithful people during the time of the Israelites' bondage in Egypt. In Exodus 12:23, the Bible says, “For the Lord will pass through to strike the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the doorposts, the Lord will pass over the door, and not allow the destroyer to come into your houses to strike you.” By early morning, we were...

May 27: A Heart of Worship

Image
Theme : Praising God in All Seasons Jusene Brown Kings SDA Church Key Verse : “…The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord.” — Job 1:21 (NKJV) Solomon declares in Ecclesiastes 3:1 To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven.  Life is a series of changing seasons, seasons of joy and sorrow, gain and loss, peace and pain. But no matter the season, our response of worship should remain constant.  The life of Job is one of the most profound examples in Scripture of a heart that worships God through every season. His story teaches us the essence of genuine faith and steadfast praise. Let’s explore five timeless lessons from Job’s life.  Lesson 1: Daily Worship Anchors Our Lives in God Chapter 1 introduces Job as blameless, upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil. Job did not just serve God on occasion; he worshipped faithfully and interceded daily for his household. Application: Let our worship be a daily lif...

May 26: The Well Was Always There

Image
Sharon Campbell- Danvers Founder, Daughters Arise Kings SDA Church     "The Well Was Always There" I have always had a passion for backyard gardening. I was a proud 4-H member in school and studied Agriculture in high school, but honestly, my greatest teacher ended up being YouTube. I spent countless hours learning from videos, trying new techniques, and cultivating a space that brought me peace and joy. But as the garden grew, so did the water bill. Month after month, it was high—and my husband, ever so practical, kept reminding me to conserve. I felt the weight of his concern. We talked about it and agreed: one day, we would dig a deep well on the property. It was a dream. A solution that seemed just out of reach because of the cost. So, we kept wishing and waiting. In the meantime, watering with buckets became exhausting. My back ached, and I struggled. Eventually, we decided it was time to get serious. We contacted a well-drilling company to get a quote. While they were o...

May 25: The Long Suffering Guide

Image
The Long-Suffering Guide Carline Reid-Willis Ebenezer SDA Church One day, you’ll tell your story—the one about how you overcame the very thing you’re struggling with right now. That day will come when you look back on this season of your life and say, “With God, I made it through.” You will survive. You will overcome. You will make it. And here’s the beautiful part—your story will become someone else’s survival guide. This isn’t just about you. It’s about the lives that need your example, about the people you haven’t even met yet who will one day find hope in your journey. 1 Corinthians 1:9 says, “God will do this, for he is faithful to do what he says, and he has invited you into partnership with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.” God is the one who will bring you through, but your story—your testimony—will be a testament to His faithfulness. Your survival will be a beacon of hope that points straight to Jesus because He is the only way through. Remember Joseph’s words in Genesis 5...

May 24: Faith Over Fear

Image
Theme: Trusting God’s Timing Ann Marie Roach Ephesus SDA Church Scripture: 1 Peter 1:7 (KJV) "That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ." It used to be normal for my mouth to speak before my mind fully processed the weight of my words. I clearly remember the day my friend and prayer partner told me I should rejoice in the midst of trials. I looked at her as if she were speaking a foreign language. I thought to myself, how could God possibly want me to be happy about what I’m going through? Despite growing up in the church, I had never truly grasped the Scriptures or believed them. Looking back, I see now that Isaiah was speaking directly to me when he wrote: "Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts." (Isaiah 28:9 KJV...

May 23 He Knows Your Heart

Image
Scripture: Job 20:4-5 Theme: God Sees Beyond the Surface Often, our hearts can mislead us. They do not always reflect the truth. But if our hearts condemn us, God is greater than our hearts (1 John 3:20). One vivid example in the Bible that shows the need for a "heart transplant" is the story of David and Bathsheba. David allowed his eyes to guide his actions, leading him into a spiral of deception, lies, adultery, and even murder. His choices brought devastating consequences—pregnancy, the death of a loyal husband, and eventually, the loss of a child (2 Samuel 11). David knew deep in his heart that he had sinned grievously. He felt hopeless and defeated. Yet, where sin abounds, grace abounds much more (Romans 5:20). Society often views sexual sin as worse than other sins. Still, the Bible teaches us to flee fornication (1 Corinthians 6:18) and to honor marriage: "Submit yourselves to your own husbands and wives." David recognized the severity of his sin and...

May 22: Anchored in Christ

Image
Theme: A woman of Unshakable Faith Nicola Roach  Kings SDA Church Scripture: For I know that my redeemer liveth and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth. Job 19:25 Oftentimes we are left with various challenges in life, wondering when they will ever seize. Throughout my life’s journey I have faced many difficulties, but one essential lesson I have learnt is perseverance and to continue moving forward in faith and grace. I myself have fallen into deep sleep but I woke just in time to catch myself. I have encountered numerous obstacles that have led me to see God in a different light.  Have you ever experienced a tunnel situation, anxiously waiting to see the light at the end? Breathing but no life, seeing but you feel blind? Some situations are simply horrible but without the experiences we would often neglect prayer and the importance of staying in God’s presence. These trials are what keeps us at the feet of Jesus.  This famous verse of the song entitled ...

May 21: Shattered but Not Broken

Image
Theme: Darkness Cannot Overcome God’s Light Arlene Mc Loed, Kings SDA Church Scripture: "The lamp of a wicked man is snuffed out; the flame of his fire stops burning. The light in his tent becomes dark; the lamp beside him goes out." — Job 18:5-6 (NIV) There are seasons when life feels utterly shattered—when loss, betrayal, sickness, or fear creep in like an overwhelming darkness. During these times, that’s when I feel as if every source of light around me has flickered out, leaving me in a place of deep despair. Yet even when everything familiar fades, God’s light within me remains. Sometimes I don’t even notice it and then He sends a message ( through someone or something). In the book of Job, Bildad speaks about the fate of the wicked—their light goes out because it was never rooted in God. However, those who belong to the Lord carry a different promise: our light comes from an unshakable Source. John 1:5 reminds us, "The light shines in the darkness, and the darknes...

May 20: Victory over the Enemy

Image
Shirlette Facey Kings SDA Church Theme: The Righteous Keep Moving.  Scripture Focus : The righteous keep moving f orward, and those with clean hands become stronger and stronger.” – Job 17:9 (NLT) Life often feels like a battlefield. The enemy attacks through discouragement, setbacks, and pain. But God has not left us without hope. In Job 17:9, even in the midst of  unimaginable suffering, Job declares that the righteous will hold to their ways and those with clean hands will grow stronger. He believed that walking with God meant progression—even through pain. I want to share a deeply personal experience of loss and how it shaped my faith. My brother was five years old when he was diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer. He had surgery at age six and spent the next year in and out of the hospital until he lost the battle at age seven, on February 21, 2013—just three days before my birthday.I remember it like it was yesterday. I was at work when my mom called and told me...

May 19: Standing in the Fire

Image
Theme:  Your Defender is in Heaven Carla McGarvey-Blair MPH, NP Bethany SDA   Job 16:19-21  Also now, behold, my witness is in heaven, and my record is on high.  My friends scorn me: but mine eye poureth out tears unto God.   O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man pleadeth for his neighbour! Think back: have you ever been burned by a fire on the stove, a hot pot, hot water, a curling iron, oil, or even a simple cup of tea?   This can leave you in so much pain and you wonder why is your defender “MOM”, taking so long after you screamed your   “throat out”? In Job 16, 19 -21, you would assume that at this point, Father Job has  crossed the line and is now into outright sin.   But no, he still believes  that he has an advocate on High!   He just wishes that he could talk  to God as you and I could talk to our neighbors.   “Oh Lord”,  he screamed desperately, “I wish I could talk to you, out l...

May 18: God is Fighting for You

Key Verse : Job 15:8-10 Theme : He knows your story from beginning to end Dacia Chambers  Shepherdess CIC  Savannah SDA Church Have you ever been in situations where you questioned God’s presence? And to compound the perplexity, others around you may have caused you to question God’s omnipresence. In those moments, if you cling to His promises, you realize that God is closer than you think. This devotional hopes to remind you today that God is interested in ALL aspects of your life and knows your story from beginning to end.  In the summer of 2006, on a Friday evening after a very long and tiresome day, working as a student colporteur in Canada, I became even more cognizant of the Omnipresent and Omniscient God. We sojourned from one town to another in anticipation of going home to rest for the day ahead, however, as we journeyed, we had a unique worship service, not only did we sing and pray, we talked about  going home to a place where we will never depart, we each...

May 17: A New Song of Hope

Image
Theme:  Fresh Hope and Renewal Alana Harry, Educator, Cayman Academy  Scripture: "At least there is hope for a tree: if it is cut down, it will sprout again, and its new shoots will not fail. Its roots may grow old in the ground and its stump die in the soil, yet at the scent of water it will bud and put forth shoots like a plant." — Job 14:7-9 (NIV) Job is a character often heralded for his tremendous faith in God, even in the face of horrific circumstances. I recently read the book of Job, and I was struck once again by the seemingly endless train of tragedy he underwent – losing his children, his property, his animals, even his health. Misfortune was often tied to disobedience, but Job had lived in accordance with God’s word. What did he do to deserve these trials? Of course, he was unaware of the role he played in the much greater saga unfolding between God and Satan. All he could see in front of him was his current, painful reality. While many of us may not face t...
