May 15: A Woman of Unshakeable Faith

Key Text: I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth. Job 19:25

I love farming, but it doesn’t seem to love me. I have tried many times to plant peppers, cane, tomato, avocado, and the list goes on. They all died. Friends started the process and passed the plants or trees to me, but they still died. All except 1. My beautiful Aloe Vera. Oh, how I love this plant. I do nothing, and it still grows. All the pots that had plants that died now have Aloe Vera. My husband planted a Leaf of Life, and although he, too, did not get the gift of farming, the Leaf of Life started striving.

One day, I noticed that the Aloe Vera took over half the pot with the Leaf or Life. We used the Leaf of Life several times, so I really did not want it to die. I decided to rescue this plant. I added lots of water to soften the soil; I used my gardening fork and shovel to try to pry the Aloe up, but nothing. When I pulled it up, all the soil from the big gardening pot came up with it.

I stood staring at the Aloe in my hand with all the soil still attached. Then the Lord spoke to me. What if your faith was so deeply grounded that even when you are saturated by the things of this world, you remain unshakable? What if when the enemy sticks you with trials and tries to pry you from your Lord, you remain grounded? What if when situations in this life pull you out from where you thought you should be, you hang on with faith in the one who has been sustaining you?

All God’s children will face trials. Job did, Daniel did, the three Hebrew boys did, Paul did, David did, and you and I have and will face even more trials. How will we respond when we are tested?

When Job was going through his trials, he declared, I know my redeemer lives. It was not a secondhand testimony. It wasn’t hearsay. It wasn’t a guess. It wasn’t just something he had read about or heard from a sermon. It was a declaration, grounded in faith, developed over time through his relationship with Christ.

How will we respond to the test we will face? The decisions we make every moment of our lives help to plant us either in the sand or on the rock. The life we choose to live today helps to determine whether or not we will stand tomorrow. How we spend our time today determines how firm our foundation will be.

Let us pray for each other so that we will be anchored in Christ.

Prayer

Dear Jesus,

I love you. I want to have that unshakeable relationship with you. I want to develop that faith, so I can be confident in my walk with you. I know I will be tested. I am facing some tests at this very moment. Please help me to walk like a champion, victorious through You. Thank you for being with me in the most difficult tests that I will face. And Lord, when the burdens I bear seem more than I can manage, help me to remember that you are willing and able to carry me through.

Amen.
