Scripture: “I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.” – Psalm 34:4
Teaching can sometimes feel like walking through fire. The classroom can be both a place of great reward and deep testing. I remember one day stepping into a class, only to be met by boys who took aim at me with an elastic slingshot. At that time in Jamaica, gang conflicts were rising, and many of the boys in my class came from communities torn by crime and violence. They were reluctant readers, often filling their books with drawings of weapons—guns more terrifying than anything I had ever seen in reality.
That day, as they aimed at me, fear gripped my heart. I left the classroom weeping, broken, and torn in pieces. My tears became my prayer: “God, please save me.” I poured out my soul to Him, and in His faithfulness, He answered. Not only did He protect me in that moment, but He also opened a door for a new job, a place where I could continue to serve without fear. Today, I can boldly say, God answers prayer.
David, the psalmist, knew this truth well. In Psalm 34:4, he recalls a time when he was running for his life from King Saul. Fear pressed on every side, and he even pretended madness before King Achish to escape danger. Yet, in the midst of his terror, David sought the Lord. He cried out from the depths of his desperation, and God heard him. The same God who shielded David from his enemies is the One who shielded me from harm—and the One who still hears your cries today.
Dear sister, you may be facing a classroom of challenges, a workplace of opposition, a family struggle, or even the private battles of your heart. Fear may whisper that you are alone. But remember this: the God who heard David’s cry, the God who answered me in my moment of despair, is the same God who bends His ear to your prayer.
Lift your voice to Him today. He hears you. And He will deliver you.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for being a God who hears and answers prayer. In moments of fear and uncertainty, help me to remember that You are near. Deliver me from my fears, just as You delivered David, and continue to shape my testimony so that others may see Your faithfulness in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Amen
