August 3: Unshakable Woman, Unshakable God

 Theme: God Within Us

Key Text: God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns. Psalm 46:5

January 28, 2020, is a day that will forever be etched in my mind.

A colleague had just left my Computer Lab, and I was sitting at my desk when I felt waves moving under the room floor. I looked across the room, and it seemed as if everything was moving with the waves. At first, I thought something was wrong with me. I stood up, opened the door, and found the same colleague who had just left the room; he was fixated, his back against the wall in fear. The teacher next door was already in an open area with all her students. They were shouting to us to move from the building, it's an earthquake.

I had felt quite a few earthquakes before, but that 7.7 earthquake felt like it would never stop. It was felt in several countries in the Caribbean and was recorded as the largest seismic event in the Caribbean since 1946. It also opened several sinkholes around the Cayman Islands and left several damages.

In life, we sometimes go through situations that shake our world, leaving us in a sinkhole of depression, disappointment, and doubt. We look around, wondering, where is God?

How do we become unshakable women when all around us is shaking?

The story is told of a little boy no more than 6 years old who sat on a plane beside a stranger. The flight was about halfway to its destination when they started experiencing terrible turbulence. Passengers started screaming; others prayed aloud. The man sitting beside the boy was crippled with fear. As he looked around, he noticed the boy who was sitting quietly beside him playing with a toy. The little boy seemed unconcerned about all that was happening around him. After trying to compose himself, he touched the little boy and asked, “Are you ok? Are you scared? ” The little boy looked at him and said confidently,  “No sir, I am fine, my dad is the pilot.”

In that story, we find the answer to our question.

We become unshakeable when we realize the pilot of our life is our father. He is not just any father. He is one who answers before we call (Isaiah 65:24). He is one who has a plan for us (Jeremiah 29:11). He is one who wishes above all things that we may prosper and be in health (3 John 1:2).

An unshakeable woman is not one who does not go through challenging situations. Instead, an unshakeable woman is one who, in the midst of the shaking, clings to the hand of an unshakeable God.

Hold tight to Psalm 46:5, God is in your midst, you will not be moved. God will help you when the morning dawns.

I wish I could tell you that everything will be easy, but the bible tells us that in the last days, perilous times will come and many bright lights will go dim, things will get shaky. But you can hang on in faith and let Captain Jesus take the wheel.

Prayer

My father, I am thankful that you are in control of my life. When doubt, anxiety, and fear creep in, help me to remember that you are still in control. Help me to stand unshakeable on Your word. Help me to hold to your unchanging hand. Amen.
