Scripture Reference: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.” — 1 Corinthians 13:4 (NIV)
That Sabbath morning is one I will never forget. As we were on our way to church, my husband noticed a fellow church member walking and decided to stop and offer her a ride. Just as we drew closer, she accidentally stepped right into a pile of dog filth. My immediate thought was, “Oh no! We can’t possibly let her into the car like that—the smell will be unbearable.”
But to my surprise, my husband, dressed in his Sabbath best, didn’t hesitate. He pulled the car over, parked, and got out. With kindness and humility, he assisted the lady in cleaning off her shoes before she got in. My respect for him grew in that moment. His actions were a vivid reminder that love is not just something we speak—it is something we live out. He chose compassion over convenience. He demonstrated love in action, love lived loudly.
The apostle Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 13:4 that “Love is patient, love is kind.” That morning, my husband’s patience and kindness reflected Christ’s love more than any sermon could.
Jesus Himself said in John 13:34-35, “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Notice, Jesus didn’t say people would know us by how many verses we quote or how often we attend church—He said it would be by our love. That day, my husband’s love spoke louder than his words.
And 1 John 3:18 reminds us, “Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” True love requires action. It calls us to roll up our sleeves, sometimes even to “get dirty,” to meet someone else’s need.
Finally, Paul in Philippians 2:3-4 urges us to value others above ourselves. That’s not always easy. My natural instinct was to protect the cleanliness of the car, but my husband chose humility. He chose the interests of another above his own comfort. That’s the heart of Christ.
Here are some practical ways that we can live out love loudly:
- Through Kindness in Action – Offer practical help when someone is in need, even when it’s inconvenient.
- Through Humility – Put others first, reflecting the mind of Christ.
- Through Forgiveness – Let go of grudges, choosing to love over resentment.
- Through Encouragement – Speak words that build up and strengthen others.
- Through Service – Be willing to do what’s uncomfortable to lift someone else up.
As Christians, we are called not just to talk about love but to live it so boldly that others cannot miss it.
Challenge: This week, look for at least one opportunity each day to demonstrate love out loud—whether through an act of service, a kind word, forgiveness, or encouragement. Don’t wait for convenience; let love interrupt your schedule.
When we live love loudly, the world sees Christ through us.
Heavenly Father, thank You for showing us what true love looks like through the life of Jesus. Forgive us for the times we have chosen convenience over compassion. Teach us to love patiently, humbly, and boldly, not only in words but in action. This week, open our eyes to opportunities where we can live out love loudly so that others may see Christ in us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Ms. Chambers, I am SOOO thankful for this devotional today! God has been impressing these types of thoughts on me all week, and I have just finished studying a lesson on I Cor. 13. Seeing your lesson has affirmed to me that this is the direction He wants me focusing on this week. God be with you and your family! May we always show forth His love.❤ Faith (from WEPS)
