September 13: Cover You
“He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge. His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.”(Psalm 91:4)

June 1 marked the beginning of the rainy season, known as Hurricane Season. On July 4, Cayman experienced Hurricane Beryl, a Category 3 storm. I was feeling unwell with the flu, but I was still thankful for the forced rest. I also knew I would need to bring my dog inside to keep her safe throughout the storm.
The rain poured and the wind howled, yet my family and I were nestled safely indoors, and so was my dog. During the night, I decided to take her outside during the small breaks in the wind and rain. Finally, when morning came, I took her on one last walk, and it was then that I discovered something remarkable.
Near the edge of the road, half hidden in the bushes, was a chicken. She was drenched, her feathers completely soaked, and her eyes were barely open, as though she were exhausted and about to drift off. I wondered if she was even alive. How could she have survived, perched on the edge of the road in such a storm? Yet something about her posture struck me. She was sitting upright, almost in defiance of the night she had endured.
Curious, I gently poked her with a stick. To my amazement, she suddenly stood up. She was alive. But that was not all. As she rose, four or five tiny chicks scurried out from beneath her wings. She had shielded them all night long, weathering the storm herself while keeping them warm, dry, and safe.
In that moment, I was reminded of God’s promises.
Under His wings we shall trust.
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
No matter the storms we face, He is our protector. David’s song in Psalm 91:4 declares:
“He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge. His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.”
As women of God, we instinctively protect our children and loved ones at all costs. Yet sometimes we forget to acknowledge our ultimate protector, Jehovah Nissi.
So if you are facing a storm, whether it is doubt, fear, anxiety, or uncertainty about the future, do not be afraid. God is your shield, your refuge, your peace. At His command, every storm must quiet.
Submit yourself to Him and allow Him to cover you and your loved ones with His wings. His banner over you is love.
A Prayer
Dear Lord,
When we are afraid, help us trust in You.
Thank You for Your protection and guidance.
Teach us to sing Your praises even in hard times.
Under His wings, under His wings,
Who from His love can sever.
Under His wings my soul shall abide,
Safely abide forever.
Amen π
