September 18: Look Up
Theme Lift Your Eyes to the Helper
Scripture
I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. Psalm 121:1 to 2I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. Psalm 121:1 to 2. Many of us were taught to walk with our heads up. Hanging heads often signal defeat.
David shows us a better way. In a hard season he chose to lift his eyes. He turned his gaze from his trouble to his God. David looked upward, but his trust was not in scenery or height. His confidence rested in the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. We can admire high places, yet only the Most High can truly help.
On Grand Cayman we do not have hills, yet we know what it means to face something that looks bigger than us. Bills that are due. A diagnosis that unsettles. A relationship that feels stuck. A test that seems impossible. We search inside ourselves. We look to friends, to a spouse, to our children, to our savings, to our plans. These can be blessings, but they cannot carry the full weight of our hope. Look to the Lord. He is Creator, Covenant Keeper, and ever present Help. When our eyes rise to Him, our hearts rise with them.
Begin each morning by saying aloud My help comes from the Lord. Open the Scriptures and read them as a personal promise. Pray before you plan. Invite God to lead before you move. Share a brief testimony of God’s help with someone who needs courage. When fear speaks, answer with faith filled words from the Bible. Isaiah 41:10 Fear thou not for I am with thee. Be not dismayed for I am thy God. I will strengthen thee. Yea I will help thee. Yea I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross despising the shame and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Keep your eyes on Jesus and He will keep His eyes on you. Like David, rise up in faith and look to the Deliverer. He is able to keep you, guide you, and bring you through.
Prayer
Father, Maker of heaven and earth, I lift my eyes to You. Where I have trusted my own strength, forgive me. Where fear has bent my head low, lift it again. Be my Help today. Set my thoughts on Jesus. Order my steps, guard my coming in and my going out, and let Your peace rule my heart. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
Amen
