As I read through Ephesians 5:25, I paused and asked myself:
1.How did Christ love the church?
2. Am I truly loving my wife in that way?
Christ’s love wasn’t inactive. It wasn’t halfway. He didn’t love only when it was convenient, comfortable, or when He was receiving something in return. Christ loved with sacrifice. His love was patient, forgiving, enduring, and filled with purpose. He didn’t just say “I love you”—He showed it with His life.
When I think of Jacob working fourteen years just to have Rachel (Genesis 29), I see a love that’s willing to invest. When I think of Hosea taking back Gomer (Hosea 3), I see a love that forgives without keeping score. When I see Christ kneeling to wash His disciples’ feet (John 13), I see a love that serves even when He was the one deserving honor.
So I asked myself:
Do I love my wife in a way that reflects Christ’s heart?
Do I listen before I respond?
Do I pray for her, not just with her?
Do I lift her up with encouragement, or do I tear down without realizing it?
Sometimes loving like Jesus means saying “I’m sorry.”
Sometimes it means letting go of pride — the worst enemy of marriage.
Sometimes it means choosing peace over proving I’m right.
And sometimes it simply means sitting beside her, holding her hand, and letting her know she’s valued.
Christ didn’t stop loving when things were difficult.
He didn’t step away when the church was broken.
Husbands, we must not step back when life, stress, or emotions try to pull us apart.
Today, our prayer must be:
Lord, teach me to love my wife the way You love me.
Let my actions speak louder than my words.
Let my sacrifices be joyful, not burdensome.
Let my tenderness be strength, not weakness.
And may she never doubt that she is God’s gift to me. Let me always remember that when I love her like Jesus loves the church, I honor You, Lord.
Prayer:
Father, shape my heart to love in the way Christ loves. Help me to lead with grace, speak with gentleness, act with patience, and serve with humility. May my marriage reflect Your glory. Amen.
