November 20: The Blessing of Hard Work
Theme: Work Unto the Lord.

Colossians 3:23 – “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.”
There is something sacred about hard work—especially when it’s done with a heart that seeks to honor God. Colossians 3:23 reminds us that every task, whether great or small, becomes an act of worship when we do it as unto the Lord. Work ceases to be ordinary; it becomes holy.
I’m reminded of a moment years ago when we lived in Green Island, Hanover. Many of you already know that my husband has a green thumb. Truly—if it can be planted, he will plant it! One season in 2007, he tilled the soil in our front yard and planted a variety of crops: corn, potatoes, gungo peas—anything the land would receive.
One afternoon, as I was working in the kitchen, I heard him call out, “Corry, look at this!” I stepped outside to find him beaming from ear to ear, his joy overflowing. In his hands was the largest sweet potato I had ever seen—a 16-pound giant! His harvest was so remarkable that the Western Mirror even featured it in the news.
That sweet potato wasn’t just a vegetable; it was a testimony. It represented hours of digging, weeding, watering, and tending—a reflection of diligence done with joy. It was the kind of blessing that springs from faithful labor.
God often uses the work of our hands to teach us spiritual truths. Just as a farmer plants, tends, and waits with expectation, we too are called to work faithfully in whatever field God has given us. Sometimes the results come quickly; other times we toil for months before seeing fruit. But when we work with the right heart—as unto the Lord—He brings increase, often in ways that surprise us.
Hard work is not a burden but a blessing. It shapes our character, deepens our gratitude, and positions us to witness God’s faithfulness. Whether you are planting crops, caring for a home, serving in ministry, or laboring through challenges, remember this: your work matters to God.
And who knows? Like that 16-pound sweet potato, your reward may be far bigger than you ever imagined.
Prayer:
Lord, help me to work with diligence, joy, and integrity. Teach me to see my daily tasks as opportunities to honor You. Bless the work of my hands and let my life bear fruit that brings You glory. Amen.
Thanks for the word this morning
