When I think back on our years of ministry in Jamaica, I am reminded of the quiet strength of influence and the deep power of mentorship. Pastor Levi Johnson was not only a President. He became a mentor, a guide, and a father in the faith. There were times when he gave Kevin assignments that even I questioned. Why this task? Why this case? Why this situation?
Over time the answer became clear. He was preparing him. He was shaping him. He was training him for the future that God had already seen.
Pastor Johnson understood something that every true spiritual leader must embrace. Ministry does not end with us. It continues long after we are gone. God calls us not only to serve but to raise up others who will carry the work forward. Like Paul poured into Timothy, Pastor Johnson poured into Kevin, allowing him to face difficult situations and unique opportunities that would grow him in wisdom, maturity, and strength.
One of the hardest decisions we ever made was leaving Jamaica. It was not only the place we called home, but it meant leaving Pastor Johnson. He never knew how painful that decision was. Yet in a beautiful way, distance did not weaken the relationship. It strengthened it. His calls of encouragement, his check ins, his birthday greetings, his tender words to Kevin, My son, still echo with the warmth of a father in the faith.
There are moments when I look at Kevin or listen to him speak, and I think to myself, He sounds just like his mentor. And that is the fruit of godly mentorship. It shapes character. It influences destiny. It creates a legacy that continues through the lives of others.
Jesus modeled this so perfectly. He took time with the twelve. He taught them. He corrected them. He prayed with them. He prepared them to carry the message long after His earthly ministry ended. True mentorship is not accidental. It is intentional, relational, and rooted in love.

Prayer
Lord, thank You for the men and women who have mentored us in the faith. Help us to value their influence and to pass that same wisdom to those who come after us. Make us faithful stewards of every opportunity to teach, guide, and uplift others. Strengthen every bond that You have created for Your glory. In Jesus name, Amen.
