November 24: A Brotherhood That Builds
Men Supporting in Ministry
Second Corinthians 1 verse 24 “We work with you for your joy.”

In the Central Jamaica Conference there was a unique and lasting demonstration of godly leadership and mutual support that deeply impacted me. I observed from a distance the leadership relationship between the President and the Executive Secretary, Pastor Everette Brown and Pastor Levi Johnson. What I saw was not ordinary. It was a spiritual partnership built on love, respect, openness, understanding, and faith.
What stood out to me was how different these two leaders were. Each had his own personality, his own strengths, and his own leadership style. Yet instead of competing, they complemented each other. Their differences became strengths. Their unity became a witness.
Pastor Johnson supported his President with honour and integrity. He understood the heart of servant leadership. He knew what it meant to lift another leader the way Aaron supported Moses. He stood beside him, not behind him, not above him, and certainly not against him.
And he continued.
He never attempted to overshadow or compete with his leader. Instead, he strengthened him. He prayed for him. He honoured him publicly and privately. He carried weight when needed and stepped back when appropriate. That is true spiritual maturity.
Today he continues to serve with Pastor Brown in the roles of Executive Secretary and Vice President, and he still demonstrates the same humility, loyalty, and grace that blessed me years ago when I watched him at work.
I share this because it is a testimony that even at the highest levels of our organisation men can faithfully support each other in a Christlike manner. They can lead with unity. They can serve without pride. They can build without competition. They can love as brothers and work as one.
This is the model Jesus prayed for. This is the spirit Paul encouraged. This is the example our churches and ministries need today.
Reflection Questions
-
Are there men in your life or ministry that God is calling you to support
-
Do you model unity or unintentional competition
-
How can you honour and strengthen the leaders God has placed around you
Prayer
Lord, thank You for examples of godly leadership and brotherly support. Help us to build one another up and never tear one another down. Give us the humility of Aaron, the faithfulness of Timothy, and the servant heart of Christ. Strengthen every brotherhood in ministry so that our unity may glorify You. In Jesus name, Amen.
