This passage reveals a staggering truth: Jesus sends ordinary disciples into a world filled with real spiritual danger, yet He speaks with emphatic certainty: "Nothing shall by any means hurt you.” In Greek this phrase contains what scholars identify as a “triple negative,” a forceful repetition that intensifies the promise. It is as if Jesus is saying, “Nothing! Nothing! Nothing!” will ever ultimately harm you.
This does not mean hardship won’t come or that battles won’t bruise us. It does mean that no force of darkness can overturn what God has ordained, empowered, or protected. When Jesus gives power, He provides protection. When He gives authority, He gives covering. When He sends, He shields. His biddings are His enablings.
Scripture reinforces this in Hebrews 13:5: “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” With Jesus, you are never outnumbered, never outmatched, and never alone.
Years ago, a friend of mine went through one of the darkest seasons of his life. He lost his job, his savings disappeared, and his family relationships were strained to the breaking point. He told me it felt as if “one more blow” would shatter him completely.
One night, he sat in his car, unable to gather the strength to walk inside. Bills were stacked on the passenger seat. His phone vibrated with messages he didn’t want to read. He said it felt as though serpents and scorpions, fear, lies, and despair were closing in on him.
Then something unexpected happened. His young daughter came outside, tapped on the window, and climbed into the passenger seat beside him. She didn’t understand the details, but she sensed his heaviness. Gently, she whispered, “Daddy, I’m not leaving you.”
That simple sentence broke him, not with despair, but with revelation. He said later, “I realized the voice of my daughter was echoing the voice of my Father. God was saying, ‘I’m not leaving you. Not now. Not ever.’ In that moment, I understood that everything threatening me was loud, but powerless.”
Nothing in his circumstances changed that night. But something in him did. Fear lost its authority. Lies lost their grip. Darkness lost its intimidation. The presence of the One who promised, “I will never leave you nor forsake you,” and “Nothing! Nothing! Nothing! shall by any means hurt you!” became more real than the pressure surrounding him.
Your Takeaway Today
You may be facing battles that feel beyond your strength.
You may hear voices whispering that defeat is inevitable.
But Jesus has spoken victory over your life.
So, lift your head.
Square your shoulders.
Take the next step.
Prayer
Father, I thank You that Your Word is stronger than every fear, louder than every lie, and greater than every enemy that rises against me. Fill me with boldness where I feel weak, peace where I feel shaken, and faith where I feel uncertain. Help me tread upon every serpents of fear, every scorpion of anxiety, and every attack of the enemy with the authority of Christ. Surround me, steady me, strengthen me—and let my life reflect the truth that I am never alone. Amen.

Amen
