Reflection on Joseph’s Story

p, and unexpected turns. He was sold into slavery by his own brothers, and he found himself serving in Potiphar’s household. Yet even in difficult circumstances, God’s favor lifted Joseph to a position of trust.

But temptation soon arrived. Potiphar’s wife offered him pleasure and secrecy, a chance to compromise his integrity. Joseph’s response was firm. “How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?” ( Genesis 39:9) He understood that true integrity is not about who sees us, but about honoring God in every choice. Yielding might have seemed easier, but Joseph chose righteousness, knowing that compromise would damage his relationship with God.

Working in a construction site as an A/C Technician, I faced a similar test of integrity. The opportunity to cut corners or accept something improper was right in front of me. It seemed no one would notice, and the temptation whispered that it would make life easier. Yet, like Joseph, I realized that integrity is not measured by human eyes but by God’s. Choosing honesty and righteousness preserved my peace and strengthened my walk with Him. Through it all, I was also reminded by these scriptures. Proverbs 11:3 “The integrity of the upright guides them, but their duplicity destroys the unfaithful.”

1Corinthians 10:13 “No temptation can overtake you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.”

James 1:12 “Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life.

Key Takeaways

• Integrity is tested most when temptation offers secrecy.

• Yielding may seem convenient, but righteousness secures God’s favor.

• Our choices reflect whether we honor God or compromise His standards.

• True integrity is living for God even when no one else is watching.

Prayer

Dear Lord, please help me to stand firm in the face of temptation. Remind me that integrity is not about appearances but about honoring You. Please give me the strength to choose righteousness, even when compromise seems easier.

 In Jesus' name, Amen.
