December 22: Hezekiah “Prayer That Turns Things Around”

Hezekiah

“Prayer That Turns Things Around”
2 Kings 20:2–3 (KJV)

“Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto the LORD, saying, I beseech thee, O LORD, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.”

Looking back on this year, we can truly declare that God answers prayers. I have experienced the manifestation of His power so many times in my life. There were moments when I felt as though my back was against the wall, yet God came through for me every time.

I have had so many answered prayers that I cannot begin to recount them all. God has been faithful to me.

How about you? As you look back on your life and reflect on your encounters with God, pause for a moment and simply tell Him thank you. Thank Him for what He has done. Thank Him for the prayers He answered. Thank Him for the people who prayed for you when you were not even conscious of their intercession.

Yet there are moments when prayer goes deeper. Moments like Hezekiah’s.

When Hezekiah received a word that threatened his very future, he did not argue. He did not run. He turned his face to the wall. That posture suggests intimacy, humility, and complete dependence on God. He beseeched the Lord. He asked God to remember him. And he wept.

This reminds us that God is not moved by rehearsed words alone, but by sincere hearts. When we come to the Lord honestly, vulnerably, and wholeheartedly, He diligently hears us.

He hears the whispered prayer.
He hears the tear soaked cry.
He hears the prayer that comes when strength is gone.

And just as He turned Hezekiah’s situation around, He will answer us. God still responds to prayers that are prayed in faith and truth. He still adds what was declared finished. He still changes outcomes.

As we stand at the threshold of a new year, may we remember this. When we come to the Lord, He hears us. And He will respond.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father,
We pause to thank You for Your faithfulness throughout this year. You heard our cries when our backs were against the wall, and You answered in ways we could not have imagined. Like Hezekiah, we turn our faces fully toward You, remembering Your mercy and power. Hear us again, Lord. Remember us. Renew us. And turn every situation around for Your glory.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
