December 3: Dad After God’s Heart

 Theme: Being a Godly Father

Topic: Dad After God’s Heart

Scripture: Proverbs 20:7 – “The righteous who walks in his integrity—blessed are his children after him!”

A father who pursues God leaves more than memories—he leaves a legacy.

As a child, my siblings and I would be awaken by our dad, in the wee hours of the morning for worship. We did not like it especially when we had stayed up late telling stories and decided that we would sleep in the next morning. We were not only awaken, but some mornings we had to lead out in devotion.

As a child, I didn’t fully understand my dad’s thinking. But years later—during the hardest seasons of my life—I found myself naturally turning to prayer. “It was like my dad had planted something in me and I became what I saw.” That is the power of a father after God’s heart.

Proverbs 20:7 reminds us that when a man walks in integrity, his children reap the blessing. Integrity isn’t perfection; it’s consistency. It’s choosing what is right even when no one is watching, and especially when little eyes are watching. In Scripture, we see the same with Timothy. Paul reminds him of the faith that lived first in his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice (2 Timothy 1:5). Though his father isn’t mentioned, Timothy’s spiritual formation shows that a single godly example in the home can shape destiny.

A father who lives faithfully before God becomes a living sermon his children never forget. Fathers, your children may not always remember what you say, but they will never forget how you live. When they see you apologize when you’re wrong, pray at all times especially when you’re unsure, work with honesty, love without condition, and stand for truth—they inherit something priceless.

Let your integrity be their inheritance.

Let your walk with God become their pathway.

Prayer

Lord, make our fathers after Your heart. Help them to walk with integrity, to live out their faith consistently, and to sow seeds of godliness into their children. May the blessings of their walk with You flow into their children’s lives for generations. Amen. ‎
