December 30: Gratitude Basket
Looking Back with Gratitude, Looking Ahead with Faith
As the year nears its end, our hearts are drawn to reflection. Memories surface of moments that brought joy, seasons that stretched our faith, prayers that were answered, and others that remain in God’s hands. This time of looking back is not meant to weigh us down, but to remind us of the faithfulness of God who has walked with us through every step of the year.
Gratitude shifts our perspective. When we pause to remember what God has done, we recognize that even in difficult seasons, He was present, providing strength, wisdom, and grace. Gratitude helps us see the hand of God not only in the blessings we celebrate, but also in the trials that shaped us.
Imagine for a moment that you had a basket before you. Each time you recall a blessing, you write it down and place it inside. How full would your basket be? As you look into it, what emotions rise in your heart? Joy. Humility. Peace. Perhaps even tears. This simple image reminds us that God’s goodness is often far more abundant than we realize when we slow down to reflect.
Yet reflection is only part of the journey. As we look ahead, faith calls us to trust God with what is still unknown. The coming year may hold uncertainty, but it also holds opportunity. The same God who sustained us through the past year is already present in the days ahead. When we step forward in faith, we do so confident that God’s promises remain unchanging.
Looking back with gratitude grounds us. Looking ahead with faith propels us forward. Together, they form a posture of trust, hope, and expectancy as we prepare to enter a new season with God.
Scripture
“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.”
Psalm 103:2
Reflection
What would it look like to carry the contents of your gratitude basket into the new year? How might remembering God’s goodness strengthen your faith for what lies ahead?
Prayer
Lord, we thank You for all You have done in our lives this year. Help us not to forget Your benefits, Your protection, and Your provision. As we look ahead, fill our hearts with faith and confidence in You. Lead us into the coming year with hope, trust, and unwavering devotion. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
