January 16: Standing Firm in a New Year
Standing Firm in a New Year
Evadney Harding
Scripture Reference: 1 Corinthians 15:13
As we enter a new year, we are reminded that our faith
stands on a solid foundation. “If there is no resurrection of the dead, then
not even Christ has been raised” (1 Corinthians 15:13). Paul makes it clear
that everything we believe is anchored in the truth that Christ is alive.
Because Jesus was raised, our hope is real, steady, and unshakable—even when
life feels uncertain.
I remember being afraid of storms and floods as a child.
During a serious flood in June one year, I stood close to my grandmother as heavy rain fell and water ran
through the house. She stayed calm as we scooped water out and told me the
house was strong enough to withstand the flood (Earlier that year, she had a
workman dig a trench to lead water away from the back of the house). Her
confidence helped me feel safe. The rain stopped, and the flood waters passed,
but what stayed with me was the assurance that the foundation held.
In the same way, Christ’s resurrection gives us confidence
to stand firm in this new year. Life may bring challenges, but our faith rests
on a foundation that will not fail.
Reflection Questions:
- What
challenges in this new year are testing your ability to stand firm in
faith?
- How
does the truth of Christ’s resurrection strengthen your hope today?
Prayer:
Lord, as I step into this new year, help me to stand firm in the truth of Your
resurrection. When fear or uncertainty arises, remind me that my faith is built
on a solid foundation. Strengthen my heart, renew my hope, and guide me to
trust You in all things. Amen.
Amen amen amen
