January 20: New Mercies, New Grace

 New Mercies, New Grace

Lamentations 3:22–23: “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”

Sometimes, as a parent, I wish I did not have to repeat the same corrections to my children every day. I wish they would hear it once, understand it, and change. Yet in reality, each day I must gently remind them what is required to walk according to God’s ways and to live as obedient children.

Then I look at my own life. What if God took that same approach with me? What if He gave me one lifetime supply of grace and compassion with conditions attached? I am sure I would use it up in less than a month. That is why I must go to God daily for a fresh portion of compassion, love, and grace. According to this Scripture, it is only because of His mercy that I am not consumed.

Every day I can rely on new mercies because God is faithful. It is because of His love that I am not destroyed. And because I live by His grace, it is imperative that I extend that same grace to others, even to my children.

Is there someone in your life who needs your compassion and understanding on a daily basis? Be intentional in showing it, just as you would want Christ to treat you.

Every sunrise is not just a change in the sky. It is a spiritual reset. God does not recycle yesterday’s mercy. He releases fresh compassion for today’s burdens, today’s mistakes, today’s fears, and today’s assignments.

Lamentations was written in a season of deep loss, yet in the middle of sorrow, Jeremiah makes this powerful declaration: God’s mercy has not run out. Even when circumstances are heavy, grace is still being poured out.

New mercies mean you are not disqualified by yesterday.
You are not trapped by past failures.
You are not limited by what went wrong before.

Grace meets you where you are, not where you wish you had been.

This is especially powerful for those who serve, lead, parent, teach, love, and carry emotional weight, like so many of us. God never expects you to live today on yesterday’s strength. He renews what you need daily.

When you wake up tired, God gives new mercy.
When you wake up hopeful, God gives new grace.
When you wake up unsure, God gives fresh compassion.

So today, do not carry yesterday’s shame or yesterday’s fatigue. Step into today’s supply.

Prayer
Lord, thank You that Your mercy did not expire overnight. Thank You that today comes with fresh grace, fresh strength, and fresh hope. I receive Your new mercies right now. Amen
