January 25:Let the Word Be Your Guide

Let the Word Be Your Guide

Psalm 119:105- “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

Sharon Campbell-Danvers
Kings Seventh-Day Adventist Church

This verse reminds us that God’s Word gives direction, clarity, and guidance for daily living. Just as a lamp lights the way in darkness, Scripture helps us see where to step, what to avoid, and how to move forward in faith.

How many of us can remember our former Adventist Youth programmes, where young people and the entire church would study the Morning Watch texts during the week and then recite them on Sabbath? Those activities created excitement and even healthy competition. Back then, we did not have so many phones. The physical Bible was our reference book. We played Sword in Hand, racing to find chapters and verses, and that, too, brought great enthusiasm. Those Scriptures became etched in our minds, grounding us in the Word and helping us retain it as we grew older.

Today, with technology at our fingertips, the easiest thing is to pull out a phone and look up a verse instead of storing it in our hearts. Could this be one reason the Word of God is not always taking deep root and becoming a true light to our path?

We are living in dark moments in earth’s history, and the need is urgent. God is calling us back to the basics, back to studying His Word. Let us devote time each day, not only in family worship or church settings but also in those quiet, private moments, to reading, studying, and meditating on Scripture.

When the Word lives in us, it begins to shape how we think, how we speak, and how we respond to life’s challenges. It becomes a steady compass in confusing times, reminding us of God’s promises when fear tries to take over and guiding us when decisions feel overwhelming. The more we allow God’s Word to dwell in our hearts, the more clearly we can hear His voice.

Scripture not only informs us; it transforms us. It strengthens our faith, renews our minds, and anchors us when everything around us feels unstable. A heart filled with God’s Word is less easily shaken by doubt, temptation, or discouragement.

I am the first to surrender.
How about you?

Prayer
Lord, draw us back to Your Word. Let it live in our hearts, guide our steps, and light our path each day. Help us to seek You faithfully and walk in Your truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
