A few weeks ago, after leaving home and getting on the road, I noticed my battery was at 10%. I watched it slowly drain—5%, then 2%. Soon, my phone, which was in good condition and working perfectly fine, became completely unusable. I had no charger and no power bank, which was unusual for me because I normally make sure I am prepared.
The screen shortly went dark. The apps would not open. No matter how many times I tapped it, it would not respond. The phone was not broken; it was simply drained.
Many of us are like that phone. We are running on 2%, emotionally, spiritually, and mentally, we are drained. Yet we still show up to church, to work, and to our daily responsibilities. We smile. We function. We get through the day. But inside, we are depleted. Our patience is thin. Our joy feels distant. Even simple tasks feel heavy.
Psalm 23:3 says, “He restores my soul.” This verse reminds us of a Shepherd who cares deeply about the condition of our inner lives. God does not just notice what we do; He sees how we are doing. He desires to restore us, to relieve our stress, to heal our pain, and to renew our strength.
When my phone died, it did not mean I needed a new phone. It meant I needed to reconnect to the source of power.
In the same way, when we feel drained, it does not mean we are defective or failing. It means we need to reconnect with God. He is our source. Scripture tells us, “Call to Me and I will answer you” (Jeremiah 33:3). When we come to God in prayer and spend time in His Word, He begins to recharge our souls.
Just like a phone, the goal is not to stay plugged in forever, but to return regularly. Daily connection prevents a complete shutdown. The Shepherd knows we leak power, so He lovingly invites us back again and again.
So today, connect to Him. Let the Shepherd restore your soul.
