March 1: Spring Forth

by Dr. Terry-Ann Robinson

Key Text:
“Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.” — Isaiah 43:19

Regrets. We all have them. We have all done things we should not have. We formed habits that we know we should change. We have acted in ways that we shouldn’t. Maybe a bad reputation precedes you.
Isaiah 43:18 tells us that we do not have to be who we once were. So, if you are a thief, you can change. If you are a liar, you can change. If you are easily angered, you can change. If you are breaking God’s laws, you can change. This may be your reputation, but it doesn’t have to be your character. You may have developed a reputation based on who you once were, but change is possible.
The text goes on to tell us to remember this state no more. In essence, don’t dwell on your past.
Now, the part I like the most comes from our key text today: Isaiah 43:19. God says, "He will do a new thing." You shall spring forth. Isn’t that exciting? That springing forth may look different for each of us. Sometimes it involves getting up and moving from your current position. That position is not necessarily physical. It can be a change in attitude, friends, or mindset. The challenge is that many of us want to spring forth, but we are not willing to move.
What are the benefits of Moving?
  1. It frees you from the past. When you move forward, you break the chains of regret and step into the newness God promises.
  2. It grows your faith. Trusting God enough to step out of your comfort zone allows your faith to grow as you witness His faithfulness.
  3. It gives purpose and direction. As you spring forth, God will guide your steps, making a way even in the wilderness and providing rivers in the deserts of your life.
So, what is one area of your life where God is calling you to move or change? Are you willing to move? What steps can you take today to spring forth into the new thing God wants to do in your life?
Remember, there is an amazing new thing that God wants to do through you and for you, but you need to move.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for promising to do a new thing in me. Help me to let go of my past and not allow my reputation to define my future. Give me the courage to move, to trust You, and to spring forth into the life You have prepared for me. Make a way in my wilderness and rivers in my desert. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
