March 14: Walking Worthy of Your Calling

by Nicola Blackmore

Key Text: “I therefore… beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called.” – Epistle to the Ephesians 4:1

Birthdays have a way of making me pause.

I am naturally a fast walker. I move quickly always heading somewhere, often thinking ahead. But when I read Ephesians 4:1, I notice Paul does not say hurry worthy. He says walk worthy.

Walking worthy is not about speed; it is about direction.

Ellen G. White writes in Steps to Christ:

“Consecrate yourself to God in the morning; make this your very first work.”

That speaks to me. Before I rush into my day, before my feet set their pace, my heart must be surrendered. A worthy walk begins on surrendered knees.

On my birthday, I ask myself: Are my steps aligned with my calling? Does my character reflect the One who called me?

I think of a small Cayman Islands postage stamp. It may be unnoticed, but it carries something valuable across distances. It does not control the route; it simply stays attached to the message. That is what I want my life to be not hurried, not distracted, but faithful. Carrying Christ wherever He sends me.

Another year is not just added time. It is another stretch of road. I may walk fast by nature, but this year I want to walk intentionally with humility, patience, integrity, and trust.

Growing older happens automatically.  Walking worthy does not.

Reflection:
As I step into another year, I choose alignment over speed. I choose to surrender over self-direction. I want my walk steady and daily to honor the calling God has placed on my life.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the gift of another year. Teach me to walk worthy of the calling You have given me. Slow my spirit when I rush ahead of You. Align my steps with Your will and let my life faithfully carry Your message. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
