March 18: Faith for Forward Movement

Dr. Terry-Ann Robinson

Key Text:  13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 3:13-14

She was 1 year old and still was not would not walk. She had the strength. She had the ability. She had the support. But she also had fear—fear of falling, fear of failing, fear of what might happen if she let go. And that fear kept her from moving forward.

As I watched her hesitate, it struck me: we, too, often find ourselves stuck in place—not because we lack potential, but because we are held captive by fear.

  • We want to witness for Christ, but we fear rejection.
  • We want to apply for a new job, but fear tells us we’re not qualified.
  • We want to grow, to heal, to step into purpose—but fear whispers “Don’t try.”

Fear is an enemy of faith. Fear freezes us where we are, while God calls us to step forward into where He is leading.

Throughout Scripture, the people God used most mightily were people who had every reason to be afraid—but chose faith over fear:

  • Moses would never have led Israel out of Egypt if he had clung to his fear of speaking and facing Pharaoh.
  • Joshua could not have entered the Promised Land if he had let the towering walls of Jericho intimidate him.
  • Esther’s people would have perished if she had not dared to step forward, declaring, “If I perish, I perish.”
  • The woman with the issue of blood would never have been healed had she not pushed through the crowd in daring, desperate faith.

God’s power met each of them after they moved.
Not before.

And the same is true for us.

You may be facing a “Pharaoh” in your life—a situation that seems too powerful to confront.
You may be staring at “Jericho walls”—barriers that seem too high to climb.
You may feel the weight of impossible odds, the sting of sickness, or the threat of uncertainty.

But hear this clearly:

You will never see the fullness of what God can do until you step forward in faith.

Fear looks at what might go wrong.
Faith looks at the God who goes with you.

Paul reminds us to forget what is behind and reach forward to what is ahead. The prize, the purpose, the breakthrough, the miracle—it is all found on the other side of forward movement.

Today, God is calling you to take that step.

Prayer

Thank You for reminding us that fear is not our portion and that You have called us to walk by faith, not by sight. Today, we lay down every fear that has held us back—fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear of the unknown—and we place our trust fully in You. Give us the courage to step forward, even when we feel unsure. Amen
