March 20: Fear Not

Key Text: Joshua 1:9 (KJV)

“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”

In the world we live in today, many people are living in fear. People are fearful of many different things. Some are afraid about their jobs and whether they will remain secure. Others worry about whether their plans and dreams will materialise. Some are fearful when they see wars and unrest around the world and wonder if the end is near. There are even people I have spoken to in America who are thinking about returning home because everything seems so unsettled.

Fear is everywhere.

If I am honest, one of the only things I am personally fearful of is toads. I fear the thought of one jumping on me. But while that may seem small, it reminds me how easily fear can take hold of the human heart.

Yet the question for the people of God is this: How should we operate in moments like these?
Do we become fearful like those who have no hope?

The answer is found in the Word of God.

When God called Joshua to lead the people after Moses, Joshua was facing uncertainty, responsibility, and a future he could not fully see. Yet God gave him a clear command:

“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

God did not tell Joshua that there would be no challenges.
He did not promise that the road ahead would be easy.
But He did promise His presence.

So how should the people of God operate in times like these?

We do not live in panic.
We do not surrender to fear.

We live with faith, courage, and confidence in God.

While the world may be shaken, the people of God stand firm because we know that the Lord is with us wherever we go.

Fear may surround us, but it must not rule us.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

In a world filled with uncertainty and fear, we look to You as our source of strength and peace. Your Word reminds us in Joshua 1:9 to be strong and courageous and not to be afraid, because You are with us wherever we go.

Lord, calm every anxious heart and replace fear with faith. Help Your people to stand firm, trusting in Your promises even when the world around us feels unsettled. Remind us daily that we are never alone and that our hope is secure in You.

Give us courage, wisdom, and unwavering trust in Your presence.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
