March 24: Growing through Challenges

by Nicola Edgar

Scripture Reading: Romans 5:3–4 We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.

No one naturally celebrates hardship. We pray for ease, for breakthrough for relief not for suffering. Yet in this passage, Paul introduces a perspective that shifts everything: we can find purpose even in pain because God is at work within it. Suffering is not the end of our story it is part of our becoming. Life has a way of stretching us beyond what feels comfortable or manageable. There are seasons when the weight feels too heavy, the waiting too long, and the answers too far away.

In those moments, it may seem like nothing good could possibly come from what we're re facing. But God sees what we cannot. He sees how every tear is softening our heart. How every delay is strengthening our faith and how every challenge is shaping something eternal within us. Suffering produces perseverance a steady endurance that keeps us anchored when everything else feels uncertain. It teaches you to keep showing up, to keep trusting, and to keep believing even when the outcome isn’t clear.

As we persevere, something deeper begins to form our character. Character is not built in comfort it is refined in pressure. It’s who we become when our faith is tested. It’s the quiet strength that develops when we choose Grace over Bitterness, Faith over Fear, and Surrender over control. Then comes hope not the fragile kind that depends on circumstances going your way, but a Resilient, Unshakable hope rooted in God’s faithfulness.

This hope has been tested. It has walked through fire and came out stronger. It whispers to our soul, “God is still with me, and He is not finished yet.” If you are in a difficult season right now, take heart. God is not wasting your pain. He is using it Patiently, Purposefully, and Lovingly. What we are going through is not just something to survive. It is something God will use to transform us.

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being with me in every season, especially the difficult ones.
When I feel overwhelmed, help me to persevere and not give up.
Shape my character through every challenge I face, and make me more like You.
Fill my heart with a hope that is steady and unshaken, no matter what I see around me.
Remind me that You are working, even when I don’t understand.
In Jesus Name I Pray Amen

Reflection Questions
  • What challenge am I currently facing, and how might God be using it to grow me?
  • In what areas do I need to choose perseverance instead of giving up?
  • How has God already developed my character through past struggles?
  • What does it look like for me to hold onto hope in this season?

We may feel stretched, pressed, or uncertain but we are not stuck we are growing. And in the hands of God, even our hardest seasons are shaping a life filled with strength, purpose, and unshakable hope.
