March 25: Walk in the Spirit

Galatians 5:25

“If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”

This week I had an experience that reminded me what it truly means to walk in the Spirit.

I met someone near an elevator and greeted him warmly. As we entered, he said, “Today is Wednesday, praise God.” As I exited the elevator, I would normally walk very fast, but for some reason my pace slowed that day. I asked him if he had seen the WhatsApp message circulating about gas prices over the weekend. He said no, and the conversation continued, touching on the war and its impact on gas prices overall.

When we reached the pedestrian crossing, I asked if he had ever experienced vehicles coming down while he was already on the crossing. I shared that it had happened to me about three times. From there, the conversation continued. He told me he was new to the island and lived within walking distance of work. I then asked where he was from, and before we realised it, we had been talking for over thirty minutes.

During the conversation, he repeatedly said, “It is God who sent you.” He shared that he does not usually speak much, but that talking with me felt so natural, and because of that, he knew it was God. We spoke about family and church.

He explained that he had been feeling somewhat low in a new place, and that our conversation had lifted his spirit. Again, he said, “It must be God.”

Hearing those words reminded me that when we live by the Spirit and walk in the Spirit, God directs our steps. Sometimes He slows our pace, redirects our path, or creates unexpected conversations because He wants to use us to encourage someone else.

That moment taught me something very important: every encounter is an opportunity to witness for Christ.

What seemed like an ordinary greeting became a divine appointment. By the end of our conversation, he walked away happy and encouraged. He even promised to catch up further.

Walking in the Spirit means being sensitive to God's leading, because He may be using us at any moment to bring hope, encouragement, and light into someone else's life.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Help us to live by Your Spirit and walk in Your Spirit each day. Make us sensitive to Your leading so that we may recognize the opportunities You place before us to encourage and uplift others. Use our words and actions to reflect Your love and bring hope to those we meet.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
