March 29: Keep Pressing Forward
A Devotional Reflection Inspired by a Mother’s Prayers
Devotional Thought
Life has a way of
placing us in seasons we never asked for. Sometimes the path we walk is not the
one we choose, but the one life handed us. And yet, even in those unexpected
places, God whispers the same steady invitation:
Keep pressing
forward. Not because the journey is smooth, not because I feel strong, but because
God is faithful, present, and committed to carrying me through.
When I think about
what it means to press forward, I think of my mother, a single mother not by
choice, but because life happened. Hardship and Loss happened,
and suddenly she found herself carrying the weight of an entire household on
her shoulders. She did not have a lot, but what she had, she gave. She did not
always know how the bills would be paid or how the next meal would appear, but
she knew how to kneel. And that made all the difference.
My mother did not
just pray — she lived prayer.
I remember watching
her in the quiet hours of the morning, long before the sun rose. She would slip
out of bed, wrap her worn robe around her shoulders, and kneel beside the same
chair she had prayed at for years. Her voice was soft but steady, calling each
of our names with a trembling intensity that only a mother’s love can produce.
She prayed over our
shoes before we left the house. She prayed over our beds while we slept.
She prayed over our schoolbooks, our friendships, our future spouses, our
safety, our salvation.
She prayed until her tears soaked the floor beneath her. She prayed until
heaven felt close enough to touch. Somehow, through prayer, faith, and sheer determination,
she kept my siblings and I clothed, fed, protected, and loved until we were
grown.
When she died, a
part of me felt suddenly uncovered. At her funeral, I cried until my body
shook, whispering through my tears: “God… who is going to pray for me now?”
Because her prayers were
not casual, they were warfare, protection, and the spiritual covering that held
our family together. However, in the middle of my grief, God gently reminded me
that:
“The prayers of a
praying mother do not die. They live on in heaven, and they live on in you.”
Her faith became my
inheritance, her strength became my example, her prayers became my foundation and
because she pressed forward, I learned to press forward too.
Reflection
As I look back on
her life, I see pieces of her strength woven into my own. Her courage did not
come from having all the answers, it came from trusting the One who did. And
now, when I face moments that feel too heavy, I remind myself:
·
I carry the strength of a woman who survived what she never asked for.
·
I carry the faith of a mother who prayed her way through every storm.
·
I carry the resilience of someone who kept going even when life broke her
heart.
·
I carry the legacy of a woman who believed that prayer could move mountains,
and it did.
·
I carry the truth that her prayers did not end with her life; they
continue to cover my siblings and I even now. Her journey reminds me daily that
I never walked alone.
Encouragement for Someone Struggling
If you are
struggling to press forward today, I want to speak directly to your heart. You
may feel tired, you may feel overwhelmed and you may feel like life has handed
you more than you can carry, let me whisper in your ear some hope: you are
not failing, you are fighting and God sees every step you take.
Just as my mother
pressed forward through tears, uncertainty, and exhaustion, you can press
forward too. Not because you have all the strength, but because God is offering
you His. Not because you know what tomorrow holds, but because He holds
tomorrow.
You may not feel
covered, but heaven is covering you. You may not hear the prayers of a mother,
but the God who heard hers is still listening for yours. You may not see the
way ahead, but God sees you, and He will not let you fall.
Take one small step,
whisper one small prayer, and hold on to one small hope. You do not have to
leap forward, just keep pressing forward. God will meet you in the movement.
Father in Heaven,
Thank You for the reminder that even when life takes me into places I never
chose, you remain faithful. Thank You for the praying women who have shaped my
life, especially my mother, whose faith carried me further than I ever
realized.
When my heart grows
weary, renew my strength. When my path feels uncertain, guide my steps.
When fear whispers doubt, speak Your truth over me. Teach me to pray with the
same passion and persistence she had. Help me to walk boldly into the future
You have prepared. And as I press forward, may Your grace go before me, your
love surrounds me, and Your Spirit empower me.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
