March 9: Stay Planted

by Dr. Terry-Ann Robinson

Key Text: That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers. Psalm 1:3

The story is told of a man who planted a Chinese bamboo seed and watered it faithfully every single day. After the first year—nothing.
The second year—nothing.
The third and fourth years—still nothing.

People mocked him. They called him foolish. They told him he was wasting his time. Many times he felt tempted to give up, to stop watering, to let the seed die. But instead, he stayed committed.

Then something incredible happened.

In the fifth year, the bamboo finally broke through the ground—and grew 90 feet in only six weeks. When people asked him if it really grew that tall in such a short time, he answered:

“No. It took five years. It was developing roots strong enough to support its height.”

Psalm 1 tells us that the person who delights in the law of the Lord, who meditates on His Word day and night, who refuses to walk in ungodly counsel or partner with those who mock God, is like that tree planted by streams of water.
Deeply rooted.
Nourished.
Unshakable.

So, ask yourself:
Are you planted?
Are your roots growing deep in Christ through His Word, His presence, and His wisdom?

People may laugh at your commitment now.

They may not understand why you pray so much…
Why you read the Bible consistently…
Why you show up to church…
Why you serve faithfully…
Why you choose holiness when others choose compromise…

When they ask, your answer can be simple and strong:

“I am growing roots.”

Roots that will hold you steady in storms.
Roots that will nourish you in drought.
Roots that will keep you standing when life gets heavy.
Roots that prepare you for the season God is growing you into.

And just like the bamboo, your growth may not always be visible—but it is always happening.

In due season, you will bear fruit.
In due season, you will not wither.
In due season, whatever you do will prosper.

So, stay planted, my sisters.
Stay planted, my brothers.
Your blooming season is coming.

Prayer:

Loving Father, keep us grounded when life gets difficult. Nourish us with Your living water when our souls feel dry. Strengthen us so that when our season of growth and fruitfulness arrives, we will be ready—firm, flourishing, and unshakable. Amen
