April 1: Growing in Grace
by Arlene McLeod
Scripture: “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord
and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and forever! Amen.” — 2
Peter 3:18
Grace is not something we
simply receive once—it is something we grow into daily. Like a garden that
needs sunlight, water, and time, our spiritual lives flourish as we continually
lean into God’s grace.
Many women carry the quiet
weight of trying to “have it all together.” Between careers, family,
relationships, and personal expectations, it is easy to fall into the trap of
perfectionism. But grace reminds us: we are a work in progress, and that’s
exactly where God meets us.
Consider Sarah, a working
mother of two. She often felt overwhelmed—juggling deadlines, school pickups,
and the constant feeling that she was falling short somewhere. On particularly
hard days, she would replay her mistakes: the forgotten meeting, the impatient
tone with her children, the exhaustion that left her distant.
One evening, after a long
day, Sarah sat in silence and whispered a simple prayer: “God, I can’t do this
perfectly.” In that moment, she felt a shift—not in her circumstances, but in
her heart. She began to understand that God was not asking for perfection, but
for dependence.
From then on, Sarah
started small. A short prayer in the morning. A moment of gratitude in the
chaos. Choosing kindness toward herself when she stumbled. Over time, she
noticed something beautiful—she was growing. Not into perfection, but into
grace.
Growing in grace means:
- Allowing yourself to be taught, not condemned
- Trusting God’s patience with your journey
- Extending the same grace to yourself that God freely
gives
Grace is not a
destination—it’s a daily transformation.
Reflection
- Where in your life are you striving for perfection instead
of embracing grace?
- How can you invite God into your daily routine, even
in small moments?
- Are you extending grace to yourself as freely as you
offer it to others?
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your endless grace that meets me exactly where I am. Help me to
grow—not in perfection, but in trust, patience, and understanding. Teach me to
release the pressure I place on myself and to rest in Your love.
When I stumble, remind me
that I am still held by You. When I feel inadequate, help me remember that Your
strength is made perfect in my weakness. Shape my heart daily so that I may
reflect Your grace to others.
Lord, let my life be a
testimony of growth—not because I am strong, but because You are faithful.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
