April 3: Island Praise

Dr. Terry-Ann Robinson

Key Text: “From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD’s name is to be praised.”

Psalm 113:3 (KJV)

We were tourists in a strange yet beautiful land. For the first time, we were traveling without our children, and our hearts were light with excitement as we embraced the rare gift of uninterrupted time together. Wanting to explore more of the town, we called a cab. The couple who picked us up were warm and friendly, the kind of people who make a place feel welcoming within moments.

As we talked, they asked where we were from. When we told them we lived in the Cayman Islands, their faces lit up. They spoke eagerly about their desire to visit someday, sharing fond memories of other islands they had traveled to and how much they enjoyed the experience. Their joy reminded me of something important.

There is truly something special about island life—something those of us who have lived on an island all our lives can easily take for granted.

The real sand.
The real beaches.
Real waves crashing against the shore.
Fresh coconut water straight from the tree.
Well-seasoned, soul-satisfying food.

Even the air feels different.

For many people, the thought of an island instantly brings relaxation. There is a sense of freedom, excitement, and joy. It stirs something deep within—a thrill that feels almost instinctive. Everywhere you turn, creation itself testifies to the glory of God. The sea whispers His faithfulness. The sun declares His consistency. The breeze hums His gentleness. All of it sings His praise.

And that made me pause and ask: When was the last time I truly stopped to take it all in?
When was the last time I breathed deeply, noticed the beauty around me, and reflected on the saving, sustaining hand of God in my own life?

If we are honest, once we begin to reflect, praise becomes unavoidable. Gratitude bubbles up. A song forms in the heart. Feet begin to move. Hands lift. Sometimes it turns into a shout. Other times, a quiet tear. Praise has many expressions—but it always flows from a heart that remembers.

On an island, water surrounds you everywhere you go. It’s what defines it. In the same way, God’s grace surrounds our lives—above, beneath, and all around. His blessings are vast and constant, even when we fail to notice.

So today, pause. Look around. Remember who God has been to you.

Have you given Him Island praise lately?
Praise that isn’t rehearsed or restrained.
Praise that can’t stay silent.
Praise that rises from deep within your soul like waves on the shore.

As you go through your day, praise like David praised—freely, unapologetically, wholeheartedly. From the rising of the sun to its going down, give the Lord the glory He deserves.

Give God some island praise.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Today, we choose to lift our voices and our hearts in gratitude. Let praise rise from within us like the tides of the ocean—steady, powerful, and unending. Help us to praise You not only in moments of joy but also in times of uncertainty, trusting that You remain faithful.

From the rising of the sun to its setting, may our lives reflect Your glory. Fill us with joy that overflows, peace that sustains, and a praise that cannot be contained. Teach us to offer You true island praise—free, wholehearted, and full of love.

In Jesus’ mighty name we pray,
Amen.
