May 12: God Sees the Tears No One Knows

God Sees the Tears No One Knows

“Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?” Psalm 56:8

There are many things that people collect in life. Some collect coins. Some collect stamps. Others collect memories, achievements, or material possessions. These collections often reflect what people value and hold dear. Yet, in contrast to all of these, God collects something far more personal and meaningful. God collects tears.

In Bible Psalm 56:8, the writer reveals a powerful truth about the nature of God’s care. The verse reminds us that God keeps track of every sorrow, gathers every tear, and records every moment of pain. This is not a distant or indifferent God. This is a God who is intimately aware of human suffering.

I am now being made aware that God has a bottle with my tears. When I begin to think about the number of tears I have shed, especially within the last few years of my life, it is difficult to imagine how they could all be stored in one container. The weight of grief, disappointment, silent struggles, and private pain feels too great to measure. Yet, even if it is one bottle, my assurance rests in knowing that every single tear is recognised by my God.

This truth speaks to the reality that God notices every sorrow. There is no pain that escapes His attention. The tears that fall in public and the ones that fall in private are equally seen by Him. In moments when others may misunderstand or overlook our struggles, God remains fully aware.

It also reminds us that our tears matter to Him. The imagery of God collecting tears suggests value and care. Tears are not treated as insignificant or weak. Instead, they are gathered and held as something precious. This reveals a God who honours our emotional experiences and responds with compassion.

Finally, the verse assures us that our experiences are remembered. God does not forget the seasons of pain we endure. Every hardship, every moment of brokenness, and every cry is recorded. This means that our suffering is never meaningless. It is known, it is seen, and it is held in the memory of a faithful God.

In simple terms, God sees what others do not see. He understands what we cannot always explain. He holds what we sometimes try to hide. The tears that no one else knows about are fully known to Him, and that truth brings both comfort and assurance.

Prayer

Thank You for seeing every tear I have cried and for holding each one with care. Thank You for reminding me through Bible Psalm 56:8 that nothing I go through is hidden from You. When I feel overwhelmed or unseen, help me to rest in the truth that You know and remember every sorrow. Comfort my heart, strengthen my spirit, and fill me with Your peace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
