May 16: God Has the Final Word
The Final Word Belongs to God
Key Text
“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”
Proverbs 19:21
Sharon Campbell-Danvers, Kings Seventh-day Adventist Church
I have always enjoyed movies with courtroom drama, law themes, or police investigations. There is something fascinating about watching a case unfold. The twists, the evidence, the uncertainty, and the tension of trying to figure out how everything will end. Usually there comes a point in the movie where the main character looks completely defeated. They are beaten down emotionally, physically, or mentally. All hope seems lost. The enemy appears stronger. Defeat feels certain.
But then something shifts.
Just when it looks like the story is over, the main character slowly begins to recover. Strength returns. New evidence emerges. Truth comes to light. What looked like the end becomes the beginning of a comeback.
And every time I watch scenes like that, I cannot help but think about our walk with God.
Life often has moments where the battle feels fierce. Situations arise that leave us emotionally exhausted, embarrassed, wounded, disappointed, or overwhelmed. Sometimes we pray and things seem to get worse before they get better. Sometimes people misunderstand us, judge us, betray us, or walk away from us. Sometimes we find ourselves in situations we never imagined we would face.
There are seasons where it feels as though the enemy is winning.
But the child of God must always remember this truth:
God has the final word.
The outcome of your life is not in the hands of people.
It is not controlled by shame.
It is not determined by opposition, setbacks, or attacks from the enemy.
The results are secured by our Savior.
What may look embarrassing right now may actually become the very testimony God uses for His glory. The things you wish you could hide, the seasons you hoped no one would see, the chapters that brought pain and humiliation. God has a way of transforming those very places into evidence of His grace and power.
The enemy wants shame to silence you.
But God turns shame into testimony.
The enemy wants pain to break you.
But God uses pain to build character, faith, and purpose.
The enemy wants defeat to define your story.
But God rewrites stories with redemption.
We see this pattern throughout Scripture.
Joseph was betrayed by his own brothers, falsely accused, and forgotten in prison. Yet what others meant for evil, God used to preserve an entire nation during famine.
Job lost almost everything, his children, his health, his possessions, and even his peace. Yet his suffering did not have the final word. God restored him beyond what he had lost.
Moses stood before the Red Sea trapped between impossible odds and an approaching enemy. What looked like certain destruction became the stage for one of the greatest miracles in Scripture.
Even the cross looked like defeat.
Jesus was mocked, beaten, rejected, and crucified publicly. To many, it looked like darkness had won. But what appeared to be humiliation became the greatest victory the world has ever known. The resurrection proved that God always has the final word.
That same God is still working in our lives today.
Perhaps you are in a season where things feel uncertain. Maybe you are carrying disappointment, regret, grief, or shame. Maybe you feel as though your situation has gone too far for restoration. But God specialises in resurrection moments. He brings life out of dead places. He brings beauty out of brokenness. He brings purpose out of pain.
Do not allow temporary seasons to make permanent conclusions about your life.
The storm is not your final chapter.
The setback is not your final chapter.
The disappointment is not your final chapter.
God’s purpose will prevail.
And sometimes the very thing that nearly broke you becomes the testimony that helps someone else survive.
So keep trusting Him in the middle of the battle. Keep praying when the outcome looks uncertain. Keep believing even when the story feels unfinished. The Author of your life is still writing, and He knows exactly how the story ends.
Prayer
Father, thank You that You always have the final word over our lives. Thank You that no disappointment, shame, failure, or attack from the enemy can override Your purpose for us. Help us to trust You when life feels uncertain and when the battle feels overwhelming. Remind us that You are still working behind the scenes, turning pain into purpose and trials into testimonies. Strengthen our faith to keep believing that what the enemy meant for evil, You are able to use for good. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
