May 2: Holding each other up
By: Allison Broomfield-Copeland
Scripture Focus:
“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2.
There’s something deeply honest about the idea that friendships are two people taking turns being strong. One day, you’re the encourager, the one offering prayers, wisdom, and a listening ear. Another day, you’re the one needing reassurance, comfort, and grace. That rhythm isn’t weakness, it’s design.
God never intended for us to walk through life alone. He created sisterhood, friendship, and community so that when one heart feels heavy, another can help lift it.
But here’s the quiet truth: sometimes we fear the moment when both people feel like they’re falling apart. What happens when neither of you feels strong enough?
That’s where God steps in.
Even when both hearts are weary, God remains steady. He becomes the strength neither of you can muster. He fills the gaps. He sustains the friendship. He reminds you both that you are not each other’s savior, He is.
As women, we often carry so much, for our families, our friends, our work, and our faith. And in friendships, we sometimes feel pressure to always be okay for someone else. But real, God centered friendship allows space for vulnerability. It says, “I may be weak today, but I trust that God will hold us both.”
So when you find yourself in a season where you and your friend are both struggling:
Lean into God together
Pray, even if the words are simple
Be present, even if you don’t have solutions
Because sometimes, the most powerful form of love isn’t fixing, it’s simply staying.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the gift of friendship. Thank You for the women You’ve placed in my life to walk beside me. Help me to give and receive support with grace. When I feel weak, remind me that You are my strength. And when my friends are struggling, help me to love them well without trying to replace You. Hold us together, even in our hardest moments. Amen.
Closing Thought:
A strong friendship isn’t built on always being okay, it’s built on trusting God to carry you both when you’re not. 💛
