May 29: The Lamb That Guides Each Step

by: Dr. Terry-Ann Robinson

Key Text: “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” – Psalm 119:105

I remember it as if it were yesterday. His tiny fingers curled for balance, reaching instinctively toward me. My arms were outstretched just beyond his reach. His knees trembled, uncertain yet determined, as he shifted his weight from one foot to the other.
My nine-month-old paused, quietly gathering his courage. Then, slowly, almost hesitantly, one foot lifted. It hovered in the air for a heartbeat too long, wobbling as if it might change its mind. But it didn’t. His tiny foot came forward and touched the ground, unsure but brave. He took his first step.
When he landed and realized he was still standing, it was as though he had discovered something extraordinary. A spark of wonder came over his face, and though the step was small, it carried the quiet triumph of a giant leap into the world of walking. Today, Alex celebrates his 14th birthday walking confidently.
In our quest for a closer walk with God, we too may start off with wobbly knees—stumped by misunderstood verses, challenging words, and the constant lure of distractions. Sometimes, the Bible feels intimidating or distant, and focusing on God’s Word seems hard.
Yet God, like a loving parent, stands just ahead with outstretched arms, encouraging us to take that next step. His Word, the Lamb, lights our path, not always illuminating everything at once, but guiding each step forward. We don’t have to see the whole journey; we only need enough light for the next step.
Every time we open the Bible, whisper a prayer, or choose faith over fear, we are taking another step toward Him. And just as Alex’s first step was celebrated, so too does God rejoice over every small act of faith we take.
Imagine the smile on Jesus’ face every time we open our eyes and the first thing we do is spend time with Him. Imagine the celebration when, instead of having the “scrolls,” we read His Word. Imagine God cheering us on as we take up His Word and let it light our path.
Take this step, and His Word will guide you along.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for guiding my steps, however small or uncertain they may be. Help me to trust Your Word as my lamp and let Your light lead me forward, one step at a time. Amen.
