June 1: God Will Never Leave You

God Will Never Leave You

Scripture: Hebrews 13:5 (KJV)

"Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee."

At first glance, this verse may seem to discourage ambition or the desire for more in life. However, God is not opposed to growth, progress, or aspirations. There is nothing wrong with desiring a better home, a fulfilling career, financial stability, or opportunities that allow us to use our gifts and talents more effectively. Throughout Scripture, God blessed many of His servants with influence, responsibility, and abundance. The issue is not the pursuit of greater things; the issue is the condition of our hearts while pursuing them.

The writer of Hebrews warns against covetousness, which is more than simply wanting something better. Covetousness is an unhealthy longing that convinces us that what we have is never enough. It is the constant pursuit of more at the expense of gratitude, trust, and dependence on God. Contentment does not mean settling for less or abandoning our dreams. Rather, it means appreciating God's current provision while trusting Him for the future. We can pursue goals and embrace opportunities without allowing them to become the source of our identity, security, or happiness.

Many people ask, "Does God want the best for us?" The answer is yes, but God's definition of "best" often differs from ours. We tend to define success by possessions, status, or achievements. God defines our greatest good through His presence, His peace, His purpose, and our spiritual growth. While He may bless us materially, His ultimate desire is that we know Him deeply and trust Him completely. The greatest gift God can give us is not a larger bank account or a bigger house. It is Himself.

This truth is beautifully reflected in the second half of Hebrews 13:5. Notice that God does not say, "Be content because I will give you everything you desire." Instead, He says, "Be content... for I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee." God directs our attention away from what we possess and towards His enduring presence. Possessions can be lost, circumstances can change, and people can disappoint us, but God's faithfulness remains constant.

The promise, "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee," is one of the most reassuring declarations in Scripture. It reminds us that we are never abandoned, forgotten, or left to navigate life's challenges alone. Whether we experience seasons of abundance or seasons of uncertainty, God remains present. When doors close, He is with us. When dreams seem delayed, He is with us. When we face disappointment, grief, or difficult decisions, He is with us. His presence is not dependent upon our circumstances; it is rooted in His unchanging character.

The assurance of God's presence gives us confidence to move forward in faith. We can pursue our dreams, work diligently, and embrace new opportunities without fear because our security does not rest in what we achieve but in who walks beside us. If God blesses us with more, we can receive it with gratitude. If our journey unfolds differently than expected, we can remain at peace, knowing that His plans are good and His presence is sufficient.

Today, let your heart rest in this powerful promise: God has not called you to live without vision, ambition, or purpose. He has called you to pursue them with a heart anchored in Him. Dream boldly, work faithfully, and trust completely. Whatever lies ahead, you can walk forward with confidence because the One who holds your future has promised, "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee."

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your constant presence in my life. Help me to pursue the dreams and opportunities You place before me without becoming consumed by the pursuit of more. Teach me to be content with Your provision while trusting You for the future. Remind me daily that my greatest treasure is not found in possessions or achievements, but in knowing You. Strengthen my faith to rest in Your promise that You will never leave me nor forsake me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
