June 12: Joy Comes in the Morning

Key Text:
“For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” — Psalm 30:5

Have you ever noticed that sicknesses seem to get worse at night? As a parent, I’ve watched my daughter struggle with asthma, and the nights are always the hardest. Sometimes, her breathing grows more labored as the hours pass. The quiet of the house is filled with the sound of her coughing or the wheeze in her chest. We take turns sitting at her bedside, counting her breaths, listening anxiously for any sign of distress.

The darkness brings uncertainty and the discomfort seems magnified, every minute feels longer as we wait for relief. We pray and do what we can, but the night can feel endless and heavy. Yet, something remarkable happens with the dawn, the morning brings hope, fresh air, and strength. As the sun rises, her breathing eases, and the tension in the house lifts. She jumps up ready to go sometimes she seems unaware of all the stress we went through throughout the night.

Life is a lot like this. There are seasons when we feel surrounded by darkness, challenges, worries, and tears that press in closer when it’s “night” in our circumstances. But God’s Word reminds us that these nights are not forever. Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. God’s favour and love break through like the sunrise, dispelling the darkness and bringing new hope.

If you’re in a night season right now, if the pain is real and the wait feels long, hold on. Morning is coming. God promises that your situation will not remain in darkness. Trust in His faithfulness. The night will pass, and joy will return. Just as each new day brings light, God’s grace will bring you through to a brighter tomorrow.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your promise that joy comes after the night. When darkness surrounds us and hope feels distant, help us to trust in Your faithfulness. Give us strength to endure the hard moments and open our hearts to the joy that comes with each new morning. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
