June 14: He Heard My Cry

Dr. Chidziva: My Testimony: He Heard My Cry.

Dr. Verna Chidziva

Psalm 107:2 – “He sent out His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction.”

Dr. Verna Chidziva, originally from Zimbabwe, holds a Doctoral degree in Sociology of Education from UNISA. She’s based in the Cayman Islands, serving as Women’s Ministries Leader at Ebenezer SDA Church. Married to Dr. Justine Chidziva, they have three children: daughters 25 and 11, and a son 21. She’s a scholar, advocate for young women, and passionate speaker who also serves in Dorcas, Education, and Family Life.

Eleven years ago, my world stopped. Doctors diagnosed me with heart failure. I had every symptom; the shortness of breath, the fatigue, the fear that my body was giving up. At that point, medicine had its limits, and honestly, so did I.

But I had a choice to make. I could let fear write my story, or I could trust the One who holds my heartbeat in His hands. So I prayed. Not fancy prayers; desperate, honest, “God, I need You” prayers. I trusted Him day by day, even when I didn’t see change right away.

God met me in that place. He gave me peace when anxiety wanted to take over. He gave me strength when my body felt weak. And slowly, miracle by miracle, the symptoms faded. Today, as I stand before you, I have no heart failure. No symptoms. No diagnosis hanging over me. The doctors’ report said one thing, but God’s report had the final word.

I’m not sharing this to impress anyone. I’m sharing it because if He did it for me, He can do it for you. God is still healing. He’s still faithful. He’s still in the business of turning diagnoses into testimonies.

To God be all the glory. What man said was impossible, God made possible.
