DON'T GET TOO COMFORTABLE!

DON'T GET TOO COMFORTABLE!

DON'T GET TOO COMFORTABLE!

Key Text: Deuteronomy 1:6 (KJV)

“The LORD our God spake unto us in Horeb, saying, Ye have dwelt long enough in this mount:”

Devotional

Have you ever been so comfortable in a situation that you knew it was time to move on, but you kept holding on?

Perhaps it was a job. You no longer felt fulfilled, opportunities for growth were limited, and deep down you knew it was time to consider something different. Yet you stayed because the salary was familiar, the routine was predictable, and starting over seemed frightening.

Or perhaps it was a toxic friendship. The relationship was draining your peace, affecting your confidence, and pulling you away from the person you wanted to become. Yet you kept making excuses because you had known that person for years.

Maybe it is a lifestyle, attitude, or habit that you know needs to change, but you have become comfortable living with it.

Sometimes we remain in situations not because they are good for us, but because they are familiar to us.

I have personally experienced some of these situations. I know what it feels like to recognize that something needs to change, yet struggle with letting go. Sometimes the hardest part is not recognizing the problem. It is finding the courage to do something about it.

And then I began to realize something.

Just because I have become accustomed to something does not mean God intends for me to remain there.

In Deuteronomy 1:6, God told the Israelites, “Ye have dwelt long enough in this mount.”

They had remained at Horeb, but the time had come to move forward.

What a powerful message!

There are seasons when God calls us to remain, learn, grow, and develop patience. But there are also seasons when remaining in the same place prevents us from embracing new responsibilities and opportunities.

Comfort can become a prison when fear convinces us to remain where we know change is necessary.

Consider Abraham. When God called him to leave his country and kindred, he did not have every detail of the journey ahead (Genesis 12:1–4). Yet he responded in faith.

But moving forward does not always mean resigning from a job, ending a friendship, or making a dramatic decision.

Sometimes it means establishing boundaries, seeking wise counsel, changing unhealthy habits, learning new skills, or addressing attitudes we have ignored.

Not every uncomfortable situation is a sign that we should leave, and not every comfortable situation is a sign that we should stay.

We need prayer, discernment, and wisdom to recognize the difference.

Perhaps you have been postponing a necessary change because you are afraid of uncertainty, rejection, financial difficulties, or starting again.

Ask yourself:

Am I staying because this is where God wants me, or because I am afraid of what comes next?

Remember, growth often requires us to move beyond what feels familiar.

DON'T GET TOO COMFORTABLE! Sometimes the next chapter of your life begins when you finally find the courage to turn the page.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, give me wisdom to recognize when change is necessary and courage to move forward. Help me release unhealthy attachments, overcome fear, and trust Your guidance. Teach me to know when to remain and when to take the next step. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Reflection

Are you holding on to something because it is right for you, or simply because it is familiar?

Identify one area where change may be necessary. Pray for wisdom and take one practical step.

Remember: Don't allow the comfort of yesterday to prevent the growth God has for you today.
