NOT MY BUSINESS!
NOT MY BUSINESS!
NOT MY BUSINESS!
Key Text: Galatians 6:2 (KJV)
“Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.”
Devotional
Have you ever found yourself trying to solve everybody's problems?
Some of us are natural helpers. When someone is hurting, we want to comfort them. When someone is struggling, we want to find a solution. When there is conflict, we try to bring peace. And when someone calls for assistance, we find it difficult to say no.
Before long, we become the counsellor, mediator, problem solver, financial supporter, and emergency contact for almost everybody!
And while our intentions may be good, the responsibility can become overwhelming, exhausting, and stressful.
Sometimes we become so busy carrying everybody else's burdens that we neglect our own responsibilities and well-being.
I wonder how many of us have found ourselves involved in situations that were never ours to resolve.
Someone shares a disagreement, and suddenly we become part of the argument. Someone describes a family problem, and we feel responsible for fixing it. Someone repeatedly makes poor decisions, and we exhaust ourselves trying to rescue them from every consequence.
Then, when things become complicated, we discover that our involvement has created additional problems.
And sometimes we need to remind ourselves:
NOT MY BUSINESS!
Now, that does not mean we are uncaring, selfish, or uninterested in the struggles of others.
It does not mean turning our backs on someone who genuinely needs help.
It means recognizing that caring about a situation does not automatically make us responsible for controlling its outcome.
Galatians 6:2 encourages us to bear one another's burdens. But Galatians 6:5 also reminds us that each person has responsibilities to carry.
What a powerful balance!
We are called to support one another, but we are not called to live everybody else's life.
Even Jesus, during His earthly ministry, did not allow every demand to determine His movements. In Mark 1:35–38, after spending time in prayer, He continued His mission despite people searching for Him.
Being available to help does not mean being obligated to meet every expectation.
Sometimes the wisest response is to listen without taking sides.
Sometimes it is to pray rather than interfere.
Sometimes it is to offer practical assistance without taking complete responsibility.
Sometimes it is to refer someone to a pastor, counsellor, healthcare professional, or another person better equipped to help.
And sometimes it is to step away from unnecessary conflict.
You can offer support without becoming part of the problem.
We must also recognize that some situations require appropriate intervention, particularly when someone's safety is at risk. Setting boundaries should never become an excuse for ignoring genuine danger.
But not every disagreement needs our opinion, and not every problem requires our personal involvement.
Perhaps today you are exhausted because you have been trying to fix situations that are beyond your ability or responsibility.
Give what you reasonably can. Pray sincerely. Encourage wisely. Refer when necessary. And trust God with what you cannot control.
You can care deeply without carrying everything.
So the next time you feel pressured to become involved in something that does not require your intervention, remember:
NOT MY BUSINESS! Sometimes wisdom means knowing when to help, when to refer, and when to leave the matter in God's hands.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, give me wisdom to know when to help and when to step back. Teach me to show compassion without taking responsibility for everything. Help me establish healthy boundaries, offer appropriate support, and trust You with what I cannot control. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Reflection
Are you carrying responsibilities that were never yours to bear?
Is there a situation where you need to stop trying to fix everything?
Today, identify one unnecessary burden. Decide whether you should offer support, make a referral, pray, or respectfully step back.
Remember: You can be a caring Christian without becoming everybody's problem solver.
