Theme: True Friendship Reflects God’s Compassion Corry Chambers, Shepherdess, Women Ministries Director, CIC Scripture Reading: Job 18  In Job 18, we hear from Bildad, one of Job’s so-called friends. Instead of offering comfort, Bildad continues to accuse and condemn. His words are harsh and filled with imagery of doom: “The wicked man’s light goes out. His lamp no longer shines. He is trapped by his own schemes” (Job 18:5, 7, The Clear Word Version). But the tragedy is not just the words Bildad speaks—it’s when and how he chooses to speak them. Here is Job, broken and grieving, covered in sores, stripped of wealth, children, and health. He needs empathy, not accusation; prayer, not pronouncements. Instead, Bildad paints a graphic picture of a wicked man perishing in judgment and insinuates that this is Job’s fate too. Rather than lifting him up, Bildad adds to his burden. Theme: Pure Religion James 1:27 Sarah Bevans George Town SDA Church Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. In a world where religion can often become complicated, performative, or even divisive, the author of the book James under Divine Inspiration, gives us a refreshing and sobering reminder that  pure religion is described as more than just an abstract belief, but it is substantiated by actions, motives and practices that demonstrate love, compassion and true character. James continues to emphasize that “ true faith not only hears God’s Word but obeys it (1:22). It not only sympathizes with the poor but also cares for them (1:27, 2:1-13). It affects one’s tongue (1:26, 3:2-12) and how one responds to conflict (4:1-3, 11-12), trials (1:2-4), money (5:1-6), planning (4:13-17), the world (1:27, 4:4), and much more.” This underestimation of religion i...

It burned, but it stood untouched. That fire was not for destruction but for revelation. It was God’s way of saying, “I am with you — even in the fire.” How many of us feel like we are standing in the middle of a fire today? The fire of persecution . The flames of adversity . The heat of jealousy . The sting of rejection . The fire of trials — whether in your family, ministry, health, or emotions. Yet, through it all, you are still standing . Scorched, maybe. In those moments, our greatest source of strength is unwavering faith in the true and living God. But faith is not just about listening to sermons or reading the Bible—it’s about living what we believe. It’s about being a doer, not just a hearer. Still, living out our faith isn’t always easy. Sometimes we face situations that leave us frozen—unsure of what to do, spiritually drained, and confused. We ask ourselves, Why is this so hard? Leisa Walker, Kings SDA Church    God Gives Good Gifts – Recognizing God’s Blessings By: Leisa Walker Power Text “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” James 1:17 (NIV)   Reflection:   Have you ever received a gift so perfectly timed and thoughtful that it left you speechless? Something that wasn’t extravagant, yet it met your need right on time? That’s often how God works. Our Heavenly Father is constantly giving, pouring out blessings that we may overlook because we’ve become used to His goodness. James 1:17 reminds us that every good and perfect gift comes from God. Not some, not occasional, but every good thing. Whether it’s our health, a roof over our heads, friendships, peace in difficult seasons, or even breath in our lungs.
