Psalm 127:3 I have always been interested in my heritage and ancestry. I have been told that my father's side is from Syria, and my mother has a mixture of Indian and other races. My maternal great-grandmother, who lived with us when I was a child, had a full head of white hair. She had one signature hairstyle that I can vividly remember: her silver hair parted in the middle, with two long plaits on either side. I sometimes mimic that hairstyle in remembrance of her, and while I do have the silver, I don't have the length or texture to get the full effect.  When I reflect on traits passed down through my family lineage, I see some wonderful things. Have you heard the saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me?” Maybe as a child, you recited this after a heated argument developed between you and your friends, where some harsh words were tossed in your direction. Then you may have tried hard to convince yourself that this saying is true. I know I did. When the words were so painful, I recited the saying, then walked off, hid in a corner, and cried from the pain that came from those very words that may not have broken my bones but surely broke my little heart.  The influence of words is highly underestimated. It prepared me well for the symptoms and the various phases of pregnancy.  In preparation for motherhood, I read many books on parenting. Although these were excellent, I still wish there were an instruction manual for each of my children. A manual that tells me what to expect as they move through the various stages of life, which method of discipline will have the greatest impact, and how to ensure that they follow the right path. A manual that tells me what they will do, what they will struggle with, and how I can help them become all God wants them to be...

He is often so much better than I am. I try to imitate his stance, keeping my eyes right on the center. But sometimes the wind comes and blows my dart in a direction I did not intend for it to go.  Training our children can be like playing Darts. Regardless of our best attempts, sometimes they go in a direction we do not expect.  The Bible’s instruction to us as parents is: 'Train up a child in the way he should go.' This job of training is no easy task.   Safe in His Strong Tower  Key Text:  Dr. Terry-Ann Robinson Kings SDA Church  The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe. Proverbs 18:10   Standing at 2,722 feet tall, in the city of Dubai, we find the tallest tower in the world, the Burj Khalifa.  This tower has 163 floors. I have never been to this tower, but I can imagine its magnificence. Other similar towers, such as Tokyo Skytree and Shanghai Tower, stand tall as major attractions.  Whenever I hear about a possible flooding or a tsunami threat, my mind goes racing to these towers. Amid a disaster, their beauty fades, and their ability to provide a place of refuge becomes a primary focus. On the top floor of Burj Khalifa, I imagine I would not be worried about a potential flooding or tsunami. But here is the problem. I don't live near any of these towers. Sometimes, because of fear, I enter cautiously, questioning if the call was really for me.   In Mark 4:35-41, we find the story of the disciples in the midst of a storm. Some suffered beatings, persecution, loss of home, property, and even family. Yet in the midst of trials, their faith remained steadfast. In the story of Esther, when the lives of her people were under threat, she called for fasting and prayer. I truly enjoy backyard gardening. It brings me joy to watch things grow and to eventually reap the fruits of my labour. There is something deeply rewarding about nurturing something from seed to harvest. However, gardening in the Cayman Islands presents several challenges. A wide variety of pests and insects frequently attack my plants. I have had to become quite creative, using natural remedies to keep the pests at bay. Occasionally, when nothing else worked, I resorted reluctantly to using chemicals as a last resort. In all honesty, the greatest threat to my garden has not been insects or iguanas. In many ways, they symbolise how women carry so much, responsibilities, expectations, memories, and burdens. The truth is, I believe God uniquely designed women with strength—strength to carry, but also strength to surrender. The theme for today reminds us to  lay down our worries.  But let us reflect for a moment:  Is worrying a thing? Can it be carried or lifted? What exactly is worry? Worry is like a  burden,  invisible to the eye, but heavy on the heart. People cannot always see what we carry, but we feel it. Unless we open our hearts to God or to those close to us, we carry it alone. Just like a physical load,  worry weighs us down . It tires us out. There are days when your patience is stretched to its limits, your emotions are frayed, and your heart feels heavy with disappointment or guilt.
